{"id":691195,"date":"2026-06-08T07:17:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T07:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/691195\/"},"modified":"2026-06-08T07:17:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T07:17:09","slug":"barcelona-struggle-to-find-suitor-for-unwanted-star-as-ajax-cannot-meet-financial-demands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/691195\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona struggle to find suitor for unwanted star as Ajax cannot meet financial demands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marc-Andre ter Stegen\u2019s future at Barcelona remains one of the most complex issues the club must resolve before the summer window closes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a loan spell at Girona that came to nothing, ter Stegen has been recently <a href=\"https:\/\/barcauniversal.com\/new-ajax-manager-seeks-reunion-with-out-of-favour-barcelona-captain-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">linked with a move to Ajax<\/a>. However, a potential move to the Netherlands has already hit a stumbling block.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The German goalkeeper is not in Hansi Flick\u2019s plans for next season, just as he was not last season, leaving the club\u2019s sporting directorate searching for a workable solution to a situation that is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate.<\/p>\n<p>Ajax interested but financially limited<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/girona-fc-v-getafe-cf-laliga-ea-sports-1-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Girona\" class=\"wp-image-199898\"  \/>Ter Stegen\u2019s salary is becoming a problem. (Photo by Alex Caparros\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marca.com\/futbol\/barcelona\/2026\/06\/07\/ajax-le-salen-cuentas-ter-stegen.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">MARCA<\/a>, a door appeared to open when Michel was appointed as the new Ajax head coach. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The manager had already signed Ter Stegen to Girona last season and has the goalkeeper in mind as a potential reinforcement at his new club, where the goalkeeping position is identified as a priority area to strengthen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, ter Stegen\u2019s salary exceeds \u20ac15 million per season, a figure that is completely out of Ajax\u2019s reach. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dutch club could realistically offer a similar contribution to what Girona paid during his loan last season, approximately \u20ac1 million, making a straightforward deal virtually impossible without significant intervention from Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>Barcelona\u2019s preferred outcome<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/girona-fc-v-getafe-cf-laliga-ea-sports-4-1024x693.jpg\" alt=\"Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona player\" class=\"wp-image-191581\"  \/>Ajax can\u2019t afford to sign ter Stegen. (Photo by Alex Caparros\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Barcelona would be willing to subsidise the majority of his wages on another loan, the club would much rather find a permanent solution to avoid repeating the same negotiation cycle every summer. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is that Ter Stegen\u2019s persistent injury record over the past two years makes any club reluctant to commit to a significant transfer fee or absorb his full salary permanently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those doubts exist at Ajax too.
