SAN ANTONIO \u2013 Among the sea of blue and orange in New York City for the NBA Finals, there\u2019s one Spurs fan with ties to the Alamo City. <\/p>\n
Kevin Griffin, a San Antonio native living in New York City, didn\u2019t hesitate when asked what it\u2019s been like repping the Spurs in enemy territory during the 2026 NBA Finals.<\/p>\n
In an interview with KSAT, Griffin said the two-game deficit isn\u2019t enough for him to count the Spurs out.<\/p>\n
KSAT: So what is it like being a Spurs fan in New York City right now?<\/p>\n
Griffin: So, you know, just as I was walking down the street a few minutes ago, there were some people making comments, you know, \u2018Oh, he\u2019s wearing a Spurs jersey, you know, down 0-2.\u2019 But then their friend goes, \u2018But it\u2019s a Duncan jersey.\u2019<\/p>\n
KSAT: How are you feeling? We\u2019re down 0-2.<\/p>\n
Griffin: It\u2019s tough. Young team. They\u2019re trying to do things that we\u2019ve never seen before. We get one. We get one here. Knicks are going to be rattled. I think the Spurs have a good opportunity. Dylan Harper\u2019s been playing incredible. Jalen Brunson\u2019s really good, but Dylan Harper was the best player on the floor the last two games. We have the best player on the floor this series, and Wemby\u2019s the best player in the world. So, we\u2019re in a good spot.<\/p>\n
KSAT: How do you feel on game days? Are there gameday jitters for you as a Spurs fan? Do you get nervous?<\/p>\n
Griffin: Oh, for sure. You know, we generally, each morning, somebody in the group chat, you know, says, \u2018Gameday, boys.\u2019 Or, you know, like what (former Spurs guard) Patty (Mills) used to say, \u2018Gameday, Bala.\u2019 And so, yeah, there\u2019s a little bit of that. You know, I\u2019m thinking about it all day, and especially with the finals here, because, you know, I\u2019m walking around and seeing people with their Knicks stuff. I kind of want to make comments, but I generally don\u2019t. And, yeah, definitely some game day jitters as though I\u2019m on the team.<\/p>\n
KSAT: So you\u2019re feeling confident if we (Spurs) get one here?<\/p>\n
Griffin: We get one here, the Knicks are going to be rattled. Bring it back to San Antonio, and I\u2019ll be there. I\u2019m flying down Saturday, right before Game 5.<\/p>\n
KSAT: Tell me about your San Antonio connection.<\/p>\n
Griffin: So I\u2019m from San Antonio, so I grew up there (and) became a Spurs fan in kindergarten. My kindergarten teacher at Broccoli Elementary \u2014 she was a big Spurs fan. Took us to a game the year before Tim Duncan got drafted. So, you know, a ton of cheap tickets at that point in time. <\/p>\n
And so I became a Spurs fan from there. And then, like I said, it\u2019s easy being a Spurs fan. You know, staying dedicated with the team is maybe not as easy for some people, but for me, I was fortunate. You know, first grade, whatever age that is, maybe seven years old, Tim Duncan gets drafted, and from there, it\u2019s, you know, greatest organization in sports. Legacy begins.<\/p>\n
KSAT: So the San Antonio question: what high school did you go to?<\/p>\n
Griffin: OK, so I went to Communications Arts High School \u2014 played sports for Taft High School on the same campus.<\/p>\n
KSAT: Any message for anybody back in San Antonio?<\/p>\n
Griffin: Shout out to all my friends, my family, who are huge Spurs fans. The people that stay locked in with me when we\u2019re celebrating, when we\u2019re struggling a little bit. Being down 0-2, and we\u2019re upset yesterday, didn\u2019t even go outside. Shout out to everybody who keeps the energy up. Love my city.<\/p>\n
