RIP Patrick Zweig and Art Donaldson, you would have loved Love Island USA season eight<\/a>. They\u2019re not dead, but they are fictional, and thus they can\u2019t bear witness to the undeniable chemistry between the villa\u2019s Zach Georgiou and Bryce Dettloff, who share just enough similarities to the homoerotic tennis duo to make the lede worth it. This season of Love Island USA is off to a somewhat shaky start, as full-volume wet kissing sounds gave way to what feel like steady platonic vibes from a lot of the couples. Zach and Bryce, however, despite being paired with Kayda Reese Bosse and Trinity Tatum, respectively, continue to share sparks of flirtation. These guys love pulling each other for a chat.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the recoupling that occurred at the end of the fifth episode on June 7, Zach and Bryce confide in each other their anxieties about the situation<\/a>. \u201cI haven\u2019t really got any romantic connections apart from [Kayda] in here,\u201d Zach explains. \u201cWell, you have me, but \u2026\u201d Bryce says. \u201cObviously you\u2019re my No. 1\u201d Zach agrees. The two crack up at the idea of the show\u2019s \u201cfirst throuple,\u201d but neither Kayda nor Trinity can boast the kind of palpable energy that these two lads have<\/a>. One of (few) issues with Challengers was that neither of the boys seemed especially compelled by Zendaya\u2019s Tashi Duncan, both the North Star and driving force of their connection. Their competitiveness and jealousy was fueled by the other\u2019s relationship with her, but neither has the innate chemistry with her that they had together. That Love Island fans<\/a> have immediately started shipping these two<\/a> is unsurprising given how little drama there was in the rest of this episode. (Sorry, Officer Sexy Pants<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

The duo have been inextricably linked since they both made the decision to move on from their initial coupling. Scooped up by bombshell Kayda, Bryce and Zach got to spend a night with her in a giant bed, where she deftly rebuffed the former for the latter. Though Kayda and Zach have been relatively sound ever since (though Kayda tried, kind of, to take a moment with Sincere Rhea), Bryce has remained their ever-present third wheel. Rather than be annoyed, however, both Zach and Kayda seem to mostly welcome Bryce\u2019s presence, all three of them bonded. Bryce might have told Trinity that what they have is a slow burn, but the real slow burn has been with Zach, with whom he\u2019s shared small<\/a> (and big<\/a>) moments of physical affection. Despite the show\u2019s classic producer-orchestrated twists (bombshell Corbin Mims getting to couple up first within a day of being introduced) and hints of drama, nothing has felt as surprising and charged as these two bonding.<\/p>\n

There have been a few same-sex couples in Love Island Games but no full-blown overhauls in Love Island USA. Could Zach and Bryce be the first? Probably not, though their smiley, cheeky banter feels like a welcome reprieve from Melanie Moreno\u2019s ongoing theatrics<\/a> and Corbin\u2019s .75 speed approach to saying sentences. Will things eventually heat up between them? That\u2019s for them (and the Love Island producers) to decide. In the meantime, we\u2019ll keep coming up with different ship names, because Zryce is not going to cut it<\/a>. Bach? Too composer. Brach? Too candy. Eh, maybe Zyrce is the best possible option, if only because it\u2019s the one that Zach\u2019s brother and former Love Island contestant Charlie<\/a> knows.<\/p>\n
