{"id":693938,"date":"2026-06-09T17:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T17:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/693938\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T17:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T17:54:11","slug":"emma-raducanu-buoyant-after-thumping-win-over-blinkova-at-queens-emma-raducanu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/693938\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu buoyant after thumping win over Blinkova at Queen\u2019s | Emma Raducanu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Emma Raducanu believes her \u00adstrong start to the grass-court season can be the launchpad for \u00adsuccess over the coming month as she reached the second round at Queen\u2019s\u00a0Club with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Anna Blinkova, a qualifier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt was a really good stepping stone, and the way I was feeling on the court, the way I was moving, the way I was expressing myself, just the whole package, not necessarily the tennis, just how I kind of was \u00adacting on the court, I really enjoyed it,\u201d Raducanu said. \u201cThat\u2019s something that I want to take forward in all of my matches and really embrace this grass-court season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Raducanu was competing for the first time since her straight-sets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/may\/24\/emma-raducanu-slumps-to-straight-sets-defeat-in-french-open-first-round\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">defeat against Solana Sierra<\/a> in the first round of the French Open two weeks ago as she tries to bounce back after a difficult start to the year. The world No 42 was sidelined for more than two months because of post\u2011viral illness, returning to competition less than a week before the French Open. She was tearful \u00adduring her press conference in Paris after being asked about the mental toll of having to navigate so many injuries in her still young career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">With a fortnight to train and prepare for the grass, the 23\u2011year\u2011old looked like a \u00addifferent player here. She played clear-minded, offensive tennis, taking the ball early and cleanly redirecting off both wings while trying to dominate with her forehand from on top of the baseline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe have been working day in, day out since I started training again, and even throughout the clay season we have been working and putting good shifts in each day,\u201d Raducanu said. \u201cYou don\u2019t know when it\u2019s going to pay off. It\u2019s work that\u2019s compounded over the last few weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cOf course there is a lot more work to do, but I\u2019m really just trying to enjoy the process, despite the results, keep showing up each day with the best attitude and the best commitment I can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Katie Boulter also advanced to the second round, recovering from a set and a break down at 3-6, 3-4 to register an excellent 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 win against the eighth seed, Leylah Fernandez.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Jack Draper\u2019s injury troubles continued as he was forced to withdraw from the mens\u2019 Queen\u2019s Club event, which begins on Monday. Draper has not competed since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/apr\/29\/jack-draper-miss-french-open-knee-injury-tennis\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00adhurting his knee two months ago<\/a> at the start of the clay-court season, an injury that came shortly after his return from a serious arm injury in\u00a0February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cRecovery going in the right direction, but I\u2019m going to give myself one more week and aim to return at \u00adEastbourne.
