Glenn Close<\/a> will finally get her hands on an Oscar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Long considered among the best actors to never win one, the eight-time nominee<\/a> will get an honorary Academy Award along with director Ridley Scott<\/a> and animator Floyd Norman at the annual Governors Awards<\/a>, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout her extraordinary body of work, Glenn Close\u2019s unparalleled emotional range has brought to life some of the most complex characters in cinema,\u201d the academy said in a statement. \u201cFloyd Norman is the legendary animator who has broken barriers and inspired generations of artists over his remarkable career. Sir Ridley Scott is a true visionary whose decades-long legacy has left an immeasurable impact on global cinema and culture.\u201d <\/p>\n

Nominations for the 79-year-old Close date back to 1983, when she got her first nod for \u201cThe World According to Garp.\u201d She was also nominated for her blockbuster turn as a rabbit-slaying stalker in 1987\u2019s \u201cFatal Attraction\u201d and was most recently up for a statuette for 2020\u2019s \u201cHillbilly Elegy.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Her eight nominations tie her with Peter O\u2019Toole for the most for an actor without a win. <\/p>\n

She has won virtually every other major award within reach, including three Emmys, three Tonys, three Grammys and three Golden Globes. <\/p>\n

The Governors Awards often go to artists with extraordinary careers, but no competitive Oscar. Tom Cruise<\/a>, a recipient last year, is a case in point. <\/p>\n

Scott, the 88-year-old director of \u201cAlien,\u201d<\/a> \u201cBlade Runner\u201d and \u201cGladiator\u201d whose epic decades of work have blended popular success and prestige like few others, has also never won despite four nominations, including best director nods for \u201cThelma & Louise\u201d and \u201cBlack Hawk Down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Norman\u2019s 65-year career began in 1956 when he became the first Black animator for Walt Disney Animation Studios, contributing to \u201cSleeping Beauty,\u201d \u201cMary Poppins,\u201d \u201cThe Jungle Book\u201d and Robin Hood.\u201d Decades later, he would work on \u201cMulan,\u201d \u201cToy Story 2\u201d and \u201cMonsters, Inc.\u201d <\/p>\n

Producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will get the academy\u2019s Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, presented to \u201ca creative producer whose body of work reflects a consistently high quality of motion picture production,\u201d the academy said.<\/p>\n

Vachon and Koffler co-founded the New York-based indie production hub Killer Films in 1995. Their credits as producers include \u201cHedwig and the Angry Inch,\u201d One Hour Photo\u201d and \u201cMay December.\u201d Both were nominated for best picture Oscars for \u201cPast Lives\u201d in 2024. Killer Films\u2019 output includes \u201cVelvet Goldmine,\u201d \u201cHappiness,\u201d \u201cBoys Don\u2019t Cry,\u201d \u201cFar from Heaven\u201d and \u201cCarol.\u201d <\/p>\n

The academy statement says the two \u201cplay a central role in American independent cinema, championing bold, ambitious and distinctive storytelling.\u201d <\/p>\n

All the winners will be honored at a ceremony on Nov. 15 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood, the same complex that hosts the main Oscars ceremony. Along with luminaries who worked with the honorees, the event has been increasingly packed with young stars as it has become the unofficial kickoff to Hollywood\u2019s award season campaigning.<\/p>\n
