\u201cObsession\u201d<\/a> continues to be a box office phenomenon.<\/p>\n

In its 25th day in domestic theaters on Monday, Curry Barker\u2019s surprise horror hit took home roughly $4.2 million. That\u2019s more than some of the highest-grossing domestic films of all time made on Day 25, including \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d and \u201cAvengers: Endgame.\u201d<\/p>\n

The highest grossing domestic film of all time, \u201cThe Force Awakens,\u201d made roughly $3.1 million on its 25th day at the box office, placing it more than $1 million below \u201cObsession\u2019s\u201d $4.2 million haul. Likewise, \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d and \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home\u201d (the No. 2 and No. 3 domestic earners) raked in $3.2 million and $2.4 million, respectively.<\/p>\n

At a little over $156 million, \u201cObsession\u201d remains far from the title of the highest grossing domestic film of all time (currently sitting at No. 422 on the list of domestic earners). However, it continues to show strong legs, outpacing some films that had much bigger openings and box office totals as positive buzz and Gen Z fuel the indie Focus Features film\u2019s spectacular run<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are some films that held for a better Day 25 than Curry Barker\u2019s new phenomenon. \u201cAvatar\u201d (the fourth-highest grossing film of all time) brought in $5.1 million on its 25th day, while \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d (the fifth-highest grossing film) earned a whopping $7.9 million.<\/p>\n

But other high-grossing films that \u201cObsession\u201d surpassed in Day 25 earnings include \u201cAvatar: The Way of Water,\u201d \u201cTitanic,\u201d \u201cBlack Panther,\u201d \u201cAvengers: Infinity War,\u201d \u201cJurassic World,\u201d \u201cInside Out 2\u201d and \u201cDeadpool & Wolverine.\u201d<\/p>\n

And while \u201cObsession\u201d opened to only $17 million \u2014 still roughly 23x its budget \u2014 it later made more in its second weekend than its first, and more in its third weekend than its second. A truly rare feat at the box office.<\/p>\n

\u201cObsession\u201d also overtook \u201cScary Movie<\/a>\u201d as the No. 1 film at the box office on Monday. Barker\u2019s horror film continues to leapfrog over younger movies at the box office, coming out on top of such newer films as \u201cThe Mandalorian & Grogu,\u201d \u201cBackrooms\u201d and \u201cMasters of the Universe\u201d to take back the top slot.<\/p>\n

\u201cObsession\u201d is anticipated to overtake \u201cThe Mandalorian & Grogu\u201d in total domestic gross this week, falling less than $1 million behind the \u201cStar Wars\u201d film as of June 8.<\/p>\n
