\n\tJust ahead of next week\u2019s Season 1 finale, Apple TV<\/a> has announced a Season 2 renewal for its hit horror-comedy series Widow\u2019s Bay, starring and executive produced by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys<\/a>. Additionally, the streamer clearly wants to stay in business with series creator Katie Dippold<\/a>, signing her to a new multi-year overall deal. No details were revealed, but we hear the deal encompasses series as well as a first-look on features.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFrom the moment audiences arrived in\u00a0Widow\u2019s\u00a0Bay, they\u2019ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created,\u201d said Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV. \u201cIt\u2019s become one of those shows everyone\u2019s talking about, and we\u2019re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can\u2019t wait to return for another season.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series hails from Dippold and Emmy-winning executive producer and director Hiro Murai<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tHere\u2019s the logline: In Widow\u2019s Bay, something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There\u2019s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don\u2019t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSeason two is about how everything is great on the island and there\u2019s nothing to worry about,\u201d said Dippold, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer.<\/p>\n

\n\tStarring alongside Rhys are Kate O\u2019Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey. Supporting cast includes K Callan and Emmy winner Jeff Hiller.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tMurai executive produces with Dippold through his banner Chum Films alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin and Rhys. Murai directed five episodes in the first season, with the other episodes in the season directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung.<\/p>\n

\n\tWidow\u2019s Bay wraps up its first season on Wednesday, June 17 on Apple TV.<\/p>\n
