\n\tAfter pouring his heart into his latest onscreen performance, Dwayne Johnson<\/a> was admittedly let down to be snubbed at the Oscars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Smashing Machine star recently noted that having the Academy Awards<\/a> overlook his role as UFC fighter Mark Kerr in last year\u2019s Benny Safdie-helmed A24 movie \u201clit a fire in my spine\u201d to deliver another Oscar-worthy performance.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt would have been incredible to get nominated for an Oscar,\u201d he told Esquire<\/a>, adding: \u201cI realized very quickly that it\u2019s a rare thing to reach this pinnacle where you\u2019re even having these conversations. And it\u2019s exciting!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJohnson continued, \u201cIt would have been amazing. I wish it happened. But it didn\u2019t. But in no uncertain terms did I ever think, Oh, that doesn\u2019t matter. I always thought it mattered. And it has lit a fire in my spine, which is: Let\u2019s go back to work.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn The Smashing Machine<\/a>, Johnson plays Mark Kerr amid his rise to UFC greatness in the \u201990s, which nearly cost him his life as he developed an addiction to painkillers. Also starring Emily Blunt and UFC\u2019s Ryan Bader, the film premiered at last year\u2019s Venice International Film Festival, where it received a 15.5-minute ovation and won the Silver Lion.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough Johnson and Blunt were snubbed at the Oscars, they earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture \u2014 Drama.<\/p>\n
