\n\tEmerson, Lake & Palmer\u2019s epic prog anthem \u201cKarn Evil 9<\/a>\u201d has inspired a new sci-fi dystopian film, which is now in development after landing a screenwriter and director.<\/p>\n

\n\tIsaac Ezban<\/a> (\u201cThe Incident,\u201d \u201cP\u00e1rvulos\u201d) is set to direct the film from a script by Tim Hedrick (\u201cAvatar: The Last Airbender\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tPer the official synopsis, \u201cWhen Zak, a brilliant but troubled musical prodigy, is invited to perform at a major music festival simulcast in the world\u2019s most popular video game, he is shocked to discover the game\u2019s mysterious creator may be using him to promote a terrifying new technology. In a harrowing twist, our hero comes to believe that this technology may be of inestimable benefit to humanity, and he is hunted by ruthless, anti-technology mercenaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is being developed by Radar Pictures with the cooperation of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and the band\u2019s management. Michael Napoliello and Maria Frisk are set to produce alongside Ted Field for Radar. Founding ELP member Carl Palmer, Bruce Pilato and Stewart Young are executive producers. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have been obsessed with this music ever since I spotted the iconic H.R. Giger album cover lurking in my cool older cousin\u2019s vinyl collection,\u201d Hedrick added in a statement. \u201c\u2018Karn Evil 9\u2019 predates \u2018The Matrix\u2019 and \u2018The Terminator,\u2019 but it anticipates both of those films, as well as our present moment of technological chaos. I can\u2019t wait to explore this world.\u201d<\/p>\n
