If you\u2019re a golf lover looking for a new place to practice away from the Texas summer heat, or you\u2019re wanting to try your swing for the first time, a new spot in Fort Worth\u2019s Near Southside might be for you.<\/p>\n

All the way from New York\u2019s Flatiron District, the indoor golf club Five Iron Golf has opened its first location in Texas, at 824 W. Daggett Ave., by Morton\u2019s Tavern and Big Yummy Grill.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople think it\u2019s just like, \u2018Only golfers can be here, serious golfers,\u2019 \u2014 no, this is for everyone to play,\u201d said Emily Villarreal, the new location\u2019s general manager.<\/p>\n

The 10,000-square-foot space has 12 Trackman golf simulator bays, as well as \u201cmultisport\u201d simulators where players can choose from a wider variety of games, plus a full bar. The club opened in May, with an official grand opening held on June 11.<\/p>\n

Golf aficionados can use high-tech cameras to analyze their swings or purchase professional lessons \u2014 even an hourlong swing evaluation. Five Iron also offers clinics and custom golf club fittings.<\/p>\n

The new location is a labor of love, and a family effort, said Jim Waterman, the co-owner of Five Iron along with his son Austin. The two own several The Good Feet Store locations across the Metroplex.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found out a few months into it that I had \u2026 prostate cancer, and I was having to go into chemo,\u201d Waterman said. \u201cMy son stepped up and did all this \u2026 it was a blessing to have him step up and take care of everything, so I didn\u2019t have to worry about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Austin brought in local artists to paint murals throughout, he said, to give it a distinct Fort Worth charm.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could have started anywhere,\u201d Austin said. \u201cWe could have started in Dallas, but we see the potential here, and how much it\u2019s growing, and we want to give something to do for people around here that\u2019s a little different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with its entertainment offerings, Five Iron offers a full selection of food and drinks. A \u201cTexas local\u201d menu includes fried pickles, fried okra, and breakfast taco appetizers, and a selection of cocktails including the \u201cBack 9 Smash\u201d with vodka, blackberries. lemon, mint and soda, and a pecan espresso martini.<\/p>\n

A larger drink menu has over a dozen options, with menus dedicated to specialty shots (the \u201cbirdie juice\u201d shot includes peanut butter whiskey and pineapple juice) and mocktails.<\/p>\n

On the food menu, options include a variety of shareables \u2014 such as the baja shrimp skewers and the pimento cheese fries \u2014 plus pizza, handhelds, and a selection of tacos. There\u2019s a salad and a grain bowl, too, and desserts.<\/p>\n

A founding membership costs $129 per month, and includes 90 minutes of free golf every day, according to the Five Iron website,<\/p>\n

A half-hour simulator session generally costs about $35, with the cost going up for every half-hour increment. A one-hour swing evaluation costs $99.<\/p>\n
