But it\u2019s just the beginning.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00033b6re6p35eia@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Apple on Monday announced Siri AI, a major revamp the company hopes will thrust its roughly 15-year-old digital assistant into the spotlight alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/08\/tech\/openai-files-for-ipo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI\u2019s<\/a> ChatGPT and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/05\/19\/tech\/google-search-bar-updates-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google\u2019s Gemini<\/a>. The new assistant, which will launch in beta later this year, will help operate apps, analyze an iPhone\u2019s screen to answer questions and incorporate personal context into responses, the company said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00043b6rutzopqqv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/03\/19\/tech\/apple-iphone-siri-delay\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">falling behind in the AI race,<\/a> Apple has been under pressure over the past couple of years to prove it has a plan to catch up. The company will soon have to prove it can leverage its AI assistant to drive iPhone upgrades, boost services revenue and power new types of products. But perhaps the most important question for investors is: Can Apple, a company known for turning nascent technologies into blockbuster products, convince people to pay for AI?\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00053b6rthlp2y2x@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cUpdates felt more evolutionary vs revolutionary, and we continue to view (Apple) as a laggard in AI with no killer apps and a questionable monetization strategy,\u201d Barclays analysts wrote in a research note following Apple\u2019s event.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00063b6r4841zx6f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Apple did not immediately respond to CNN\u2019s request for comment on its monetization plans for Siri AI and Apple Intelligence.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2026-06-08t173401z-1737628153-rc2tplauwyfw-rtrmadp-3-apple-wwdc.JPG\" alt=\"Attendees watch a presentation during Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference in Cupertino, California, on June 8.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"2001\" width=\"3000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00073b6rsp7e60ao@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Apple isn\u2019t the only tech giant drawing doubts about its AI capabilities. OpenAI and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/01\/tech\/anthropic-ipo-filing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthropic<\/a> \u2014 both of which are on the verge of going public \u2014 have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/09\/tech\/openai-ipo-anthropic-wall-street\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">faced skepticism <\/a>over whether they\u2019re generating enough revenue to justify their sky-high valuations and investments.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00083b6r5qoiggl1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Apple has been shielded from some of those concerns because it generates most of its revenue from iPhone sales, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/30\/tech\/apple-earnings-john-ternus-new-ceo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have been booming<\/a>. The company posted record revenue for the March quarter that was largely driven by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/29\/tech\/apple-earnings-iphone-17-sales-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iPhone 17 demand. <\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s00093b6r75jz3db4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But analysts are still looking for signs that Apple\u2019s AI ambitions will lead to more Phone upgrades, iCloud+ subscriptions or both. Morgan Stanley analysts said Apple\u2019s announcements provided \u201cclearer paths to monetizing AI\u201d in a note following the event, although they also said Apple\u2019s AI advancements will be a \u201cmarathon, not a sprint.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000a3b6r44srvekn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Siri AI and Apple\u2019s other AI tools are available on phones as old as the iPhone 15 Pro, which launched in 2023. But more than half of iPhones don\u2019t support Apple Intelligence, according to estimates Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Anurag Rana previously shared with CNN. Even if those users buy new iPhones this fall, it will likely be for longer battery life or faster performance \u2014 not AI features.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000b3b6rsxt34de0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI don\u2019t think (AI is) driving upgrade cycles in the way that manufacturers were hoping that it would,\u201d Paul Schell, a senior analyst covering AI for research firm ABI Research, told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000c3b6re3j0gysq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Still, Apple\u2019s announcements this week provided a peek at how AI features could entice users toward pricier iPhones and subscriptions.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000d3b6rtwyzxruk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Certain Siri AI functions \u2014 like more accurate voice dictation and the ability to customize its voice to sound more expressive \u2014 can only be accessed using Apple\u2019s top-tier iPhones: an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/28\/tech\/iphone-air-new-apple-17\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iPhone Air<\/a>, iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max. Google and Samsung have been racing toward the same goal by incorporating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/29\/tech\/ai-chips-google-gemini-3-tpu-nvidia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gemini<\/a> into Android in recent years.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000h3b6rybrfg11y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The use cases Apple outlined for Siri AI are meant for everyday tasks rather than office work. This is a stark contrast from ChatGPT and Anthropic\u2019s Claude, which target businesses.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000i3b6rmz7sddfy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI\u2019m looking for something, I\u2019m replying to a text message, I\u2019m trying to find the address of the restaurant that my friend mentioned last week \u2014 those kind of things,\u201d Carolina Milanesi, president and principal research analyst at Creative Strategies, said in reference to Siri AI\u2019s main functions. \u201cI\u2019m not saying that people will use Siri for productivity, but that\u2019s not really what Apple cares about.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000j3b6rn8k2edql@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Apple on Monday showed how Siri could reference content from texts, so that users can ask it questions like, \u201cWhere\u2019s Jeff\u2019s new place?\u201d to pull a friend\u2019s new address from a recent message. Siri can also understand what\u2019s on an iPhone\u2019s screen, as Apple vice president of Siri engineering Mike Rockwell showed in another example. He asked Siri for directions to a landmark he was looking at in a photo, with a stop at his friend\u2019s house along the way.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000k3b6rxxucnzab@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Apple\u2019s current offerings aren\u2019t enough to convince users to buy an $1,000 iPhone or subscribe to a pricier iCloud plan yet. But in the near term, they could help Apple lock in existing iPhone users.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqb9fu8s000l3b6r674kspp4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt\u2019s going to be difficult for a user to migrate from iOS to Android, with the Siri AI model understanding you, and now your personal context, and all of the history,\u201d said Nabila Popal, a senior director at market research firm the International Data Corporation covering smartphones. \u201cYou\u2019re going to leave that behind when you switch completely.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Siri is finally getting the big AI upgrade Wall Street has been waiting for.
