Minutes after the Knicks clinched the NBA championship, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that New York City will host a ticker-tape parade and City Hall ceremony on Thursday to honor the team\u2019s first championship in more than five decades.<\/p>\n
The ticker-tape parade will be the first in Knicks history, even though the team won championships in 1970 and 1973.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment. Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart \u2014 just like the five boroughs itself,\u201d Mamdani said in a statement. \u201cNow it\u2019s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mamdani said City Hall and municipal buildings across the city will be lit in blue and orange \u2014 the Knicks\u2019 colors \u2014 on Thursday to celebrate the victory. The team will also be presented with keys to the city at the ceremony.<\/p>\n
