President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran is \u201cscheduled to get signed\u201d on Sunday and would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. CNN\u2019s Julia Benbrook reports Iran has not committed to signing the agreement, and accounts differ on what it would include.<\/p>\n

\n Here\u2019s what they have said:\n <\/p>\n

\n US President Donald Trump said on Saturday an agreement with Iran \u201cis scheduled to get signed tomorrow,\u201d<\/a> adding that \u201cimmediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n He said that \u201chopefully, this process will all work out quickly, easily, and smoothly\u201d but added that if it doesn\u2019t, \u201cwe have the ultimate alternative.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Pakistan\u2019s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a key mediator, said that they are \u201ccloser to a peace deal than ever before.\u201d He said on Saturday the terms of the potential agreement could be finalized in the \u201cnext 24 hours.\u201d<\/a>\n <\/p>\n

\n However, Iran\u2019s military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), denied that Tehran would sign an agreement with the US on Sunday and criticized Trump\u2019s \u201cunusual insistence.\u201d<\/a>\n <\/p>\n

\n The IRGC described the timeline as a \u201ctest for Iran\u2019s negotiating team\u201d and that Trump\u2019s announcement comes \u201cdespite Iranian negotiators explicitly stating that the memorandum has not yet been finalized and that signing on Sunday is definitely not happening.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei also said Saturday that the signing of the framework will \u201cnot be tomorrow,\u201d<\/a> according to Iran\u2019s semi-official Tasnim News Agency.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe possibility that it will happen in the coming days is not ruled out,\u201d Baghaei said, according to Tasnim. \u201cHowever, due to the other party\u2019s instability, we must be cautious about any statements regarding this process.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
