Conrad Hussey, a transfer defensive back who joined Miami in January<\/a> after previous stops at Florida State and Oregon State, is no longer with the program. It was UM’s decision to move on from him, and the reason for the decision is not known.<\/p>\n

The move ends a short stay in Coral Gables for Hussey, who came to Miami as a local reclamation piece with Power Four experience. He is from Sunrise, Fla., and played at St. Thomas Aquinas.<\/p>\n

Hussey’s college career began with promise at Florida State. He played in all 14 games as a true freshman in 2023 and finished with 22 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups.<\/p>\n

His role dipped in 2024 as he made only three starts and finished with 18 tackles. Hussey’s Florida State tenure ended in 2025 when he was dismissed from the team. He then transferred to Oregon State, but his role there was limited.<\/p>\n

What the departure means for the Miami Hurricanes<\/p>\n

Hussey’s departure is not a major blow to Miami’s starting lineup, but it does remove an experienced body from the safety room.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes still have Zechariah Poyser and Bryce Fitzgerald projected as the expected starters at safety, with JJ Dunnigan and Dylan Day positioned as the primary backups. Isaiah Taylor also flashed during the spring and is pushing for playing time after transferring from Arizona. Hussey was expected to compete for depth and special teams work behind that group.<\/p>\n

Where Hussey goes next is unclear, but this is another reset point in a college career that might not have another chapter. His path to another Division I program for this season would likely depend on whether he qualifies for an exception. Otherwise, Hussey may have to wait for the next portal window, look for a lower-division opportunity or find a program willing to work through the eligibility\/timing questions with him.<\/p>\n
