Multiple national recruiting analysts have logged predictions for IU football to land class of 2027 4-star linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield.<\/p>\n
Both Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of Rivals are predicting<\/a> Mayfield will be a Hoosier.\u00a0 He took an official visit to IU in April.<\/p>\n The 6-foot-1 and 235-pound Mayfield attends Lincolnton, H.S. in Lincolnton, N.C.\u00a0 As a junior, the highly productive Mayfield was named the conference defensive player of the year after recording 152 tackles (includes 26 tackles for a loss), six sacks, six forced fumbles, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal. He also contributed 13 rushing touchdowns and 343 rushing yards on offense.<\/p>\n Based on the average of the national recruiting outlets, Mayfield is a 4-star prospect, the No. 228 overall player in the 2027 class, and the No. 20 linebacker.<\/p>\n Mayfield\u2019s five finalists are Indiana, Miami, Oregon, Kentucky, and Georgia.\u00a0 He previously announced a July 17 commitment date.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see if this development accelerates his timeline.<\/p>\n Indiana currently has 11 commits in its 2027 class<\/a>.\u00a0 The Hoosiers\u2019 2027 class currently ranks No. 29 nationally at Rivals.<\/p>\n Mayfield\u2019s junior season highlights are below.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
