JD Vance<\/a> said that he will discuss a 2028 US presidential run with his wife after the 2026 midterms<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The US vice-president gave insight into his ongoing decision<\/a> on whether to run during an interview<\/a> with CBS Sunday Morning where he spoke on his new memoir<\/a>, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which details his conversion to Catholicism.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family,\u201d said Vance. \u201cPeople sort of assume that I\u2019m sitting around, figuring out, whether I\u2019m gonna run for president \u2026 the way that I make decisions is that I try not to make them until I absolutely must.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vice-president added that he believes Trump will be \u201cvery supportive<\/a>\u201d on his decision. \u201cI have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I ultimately decide to do,\u201d said Vance.<\/p>\n

Vance added that he never begins discussions with Trump about his future political plans. \u201cI never bring it up. But sure, the president brings it up a lot, sometimes publicly, sometimes privately. You know, the president\u2019s a political animal. He loves this stuff. He\u2019s very fascinated by it.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if Trump has asked Vance to go after the Republican nomination explicitly, Vance said the president is \u201cnot positive or negative\u201d. \u201cIt\u2019s just \u2026 he kind of talks about it, like, \u2018what\u2019s gonna happen,\u2019 you know? \u2018How do we make sure that we\u2019re successful? What does that mean for the future?\u2019 It\u2019s more of a conversation like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Washington Post previously reported<\/a> that Vance may have delayed his decision on whether to run in 2028 due to the upcoming birth<\/a> of his fourth child, who is due in July, according to an unnamed source close to Vance.<\/p>\n

Vance is seen as a top contender for the GOP nomination. Potential running mates also include Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state and a former presidential candidate.
