The fresh nugget for Joe was reporter Rick Stroud claiming the Bucs think Mayfield doesn\u2019t take proper care of himself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">However, the Bucs are concerned about one element of his game he continues to neglect: his health.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cNeglect\u201d is a very strong word.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Included in the article was press conference quote from Todd Bowles saying the usual; the team would love to see Mayfield avoid taking hits on scrambles more often. Frankly, that\u2019s something every team with a scrambling QB says.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Joe keeps coming back to \u201cneglect.\u201d That\u2019s a very interesting choice of word for a QB that hasn\u2019t missed a start in three years, has performed well in the postseason and, obviously, puts a lot of effort into maintaining his body.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman talked to Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joebucsfan.com\/2026\/06\/my-sitdown-with-buccaneers-general-manager-jason-licht\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">about Mayfield\u2019s health<\/a> 10 days ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ira Kaufman: Will you to try to contain his scrambling instincts to minimize the hits Mayfield endures?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Jason Licht: That\u2019s a tough one. There\u2019s been a lot of \u201cNo, no no \u2026 way to go\u201d when Baker takes off. He\u2019s a playmaker. That\u2019s the way he\u2019s built. Yes, it\u2019s a delicate balance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ira Kaufman: Did Baker Mayfield try to do too much during the 2-7 tailspin?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Jason Licht: The way he\u2019s wired, he\u2019ll always try to put everything on him. Given the things he was battling through, it was a tough second half of the year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Is Mayfield\u2019s history of getting banged up affecting the Bucs\u2019 contract offer?
