{"id":705481,"date":"2026-06-15T13:06:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T13:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/705481\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T13:06:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T13:06:10","slug":"hakeem-jeffries-leaves-door-open-on-trump-impeachment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/705481\/","title":{"rendered":"Hakeem Jeffries Leaves Door Open On Trump Impeachment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) left the door open when asked by NBC News\u2019s Kristen Welker if Democrats planned to impeach President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/midterm-shocker-gop-tied-with-democrats-in-latest-stunning-house-poll\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">if they win the majority<\/a> in the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis time around, because of our over-performance in 2024, with candidates who are focused on the economy, we only need to flip a handful of seats,\u201d Jeffries said about the Democrats\u2019 strategy. \u201cAnd we will with a focus on driving down the high cost of living, fixing our broken health care system, getting ICE under control, ending this reckless and costly war of choice in the Middle East, and cleaning up corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Welker read a quote from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who claimed the country is \u201cpast the threshold\u201d for impeaching Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you agree if Democrats take back the House, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/06\/24\/trump-aoc-iran-impeachment-israel-middle-east\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">will you move to impeach<\/a> President Trump?\u201d Welker asked Jeffries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t ruled anything in or ruled anything out in terms of of accountability,\u201d Jeffries said, continuing:<\/p>\n<p>What we have said is that our focus is going to be to make life more affordable for the American people. We have to drive down the high cost of living. We have to restore the American dream, which a lot of people understandably have concluded is broken right now. When you work hard and play by the rules in this country, we believe the they should live an affordable life, a comfortable life, and a good life. That means a good paying job, good housing, good health care, a good education for your children, and when it\u2019s all said and done, a good retirement. That\u2019s what brings Democrats together in the House, in the Senate, governors all across the country.
