{"id":705793,"date":"2026-06-15T16:43:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T16:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/705793\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T16:43:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T16:43:15","slug":"new-water-rules-start-monday-for-parts-of-triangle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/705793\/","title":{"rendered":"New water rules start Monday for parts of Triangle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Parts of the Triangle will be under stepped-up water restrictions beginning Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Durham is enacting Stage 2 restrictions, meaning most landscape watering and vehicle washing is not allowed, and restaurants should serve water only on request, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durhamnc.gov\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/4174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">city says<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dry conditions and falling water levels prompted the conservation measures, with the city on June 8 skipping Stage 1 to move directly to its Stage 2 response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough the shift happened quickly, we know Durham residents consistently rise to the occasion when it comes to protecting our shared resources,\u201d water management director Don Greeley said. \u201cWe\u2019re confident our community will continue working together to reduce water use, and we appreciate everyone\u2019s partnership as we monitor reservoir levels closely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city, which draws water from Lake Michie and the Little River Reservoir, says its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durhamnc.gov\/1061\/Durham-Saves-Water\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reservoir storage is at 59%<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur water supplies are based on rain. When it doesn\u2019t rain, there\u2019s trouble,\u201d Durham officials said.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina remains in a <a href=\"https:\/\/droughtmonitor.unl.edu\/CurrentMap\/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?NC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statewide drought<\/a>, and the past week has seen temperatures near or breaking record highs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NWSRaleigh\/posts\/pfbid02y8aBYbCBK5Yb1P5aPcfNc2BdHGRiEgG1TDJLZW8bLWMDo3pnjvQGs8V8ZC537b4Ql\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Raleigh\u2019s high of 103 degrees<\/a> on Friday surpassed a 1914 record of 98, the National Weather Service said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The restrictions starting Monday for Durham water customers include:<\/p>\n<p>No spray irrigation, although hand watering is still allowed<br \/>\nNo vehicle washing, which is limited to what the city calls \u201ccompliant facilities\u201d<br \/>\nNo washing hard surfaces<br \/>\nNo added water for decorative fountains, ponds or pools unless it is recycled<\/p>\n<p>For more details, click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durhamnc.gov\/1061\/Durham-Saves-Water\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The water restrictions apply to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tririverwater.com\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">parts of Chatham County<\/a>, including Carolina Meadows and Governors Village and down along the Wake and Harnett county lines, that use Durham water.
