While the design isn\u2019t \u201ctrue HBM,\u201d it aims to resolve the performance bottleneck issue that LPDDR RAM has, enabling a massive performance boost while consuming less power.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh rumors state that Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi and Huawei plan to introduce LLW in the second half of 2027<\/p>\n<p>An update from Weibo tipster Fixed-focus digital cameras states that there\u2019s little hope that Chinese smartphone makers will introduce a faster version of memory in 2026, but claims that the second half of 2027 will hold more promise in this regard. Since smartphones\u2019 on-device AI capabilities are constrained because of the lack of HBM use, which isn\u2019t possible because of the reasons mentioned above, LLW aims to resolve this problem.<\/p>\n<p>The rumor claims that LLW delivers 1.5 times the performance while reducing power consumption by 50 percent, though it\u2019s not specified which memory standard these metrics are compared to, so we\u2019ll assume it\u2019s LPDDR5X. While it\u2019s entirely possible for smartphone chipsets to feature significantly faster Neural Processing Units (NPUs) and flash memory capable of tremendous speed gains, the DRAM aspect is an area that requires thorough innovation if smartphones are to achieve true on-device AI functionality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Mobile-DRAM-advancements-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1141\" height=\"501\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Mobile-DRAM-advancements-1.jpg\" alt=\"Low Latency Wide DRAM adopts HBM's integrated design so that it can be used in smartphones\" class=\"wp-image-1727785\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Huawei has previously been rumored to be working on <a href=\"https:\/\/wccftech.com\/huawei-could-beat-apple-in-bringing-hbm-dram-to-smartphones\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HBM DRAM for smartphones<\/a>, with Apple also said to <a href=\"https:\/\/wccftech.com\/iphone-20-renders-in-new-leak-with-new-specification-details\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bring this technology to its iPhone 20<\/a>. As for the development of dedicated HBM for handsets, Samsung appears to be the only firm dedicated to bringing the technology to the masses <a href=\"https:\/\/wccftech.com\/samsung-developing-hbm-chips-for-smartphones-and-tablets-for-on-device-ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">using complex packaging<\/a>.
