We already know a lot about Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>\u2018s cast and characters, but the film still has some surprises in store. Obviously, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon are returning as Peter Parker, Michelle \u201cMJ\u201d Jones, and Ned Leeds, respectively, but we also know about quite a few of the film\u2019s villains, including Scorpion (Michael Mando), Tombstone (Marvin Jones III), the Hand, Tarantula, and Boomerang.<\/p>\n

One confirmed cast member whose character remains a mystery, though, is Sadie Sink<\/a>. Sink has been rumored to be playing Jean Grey<\/a> since her casting was first announced, but there\u2019s been no confirmation of that so far. However, a new synopsis on the film\u2019s official website has increased those odds significantly. It reads:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn\u2019t remember him\u2014and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him\u2014sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves\u2014a powerful villain no one can even see.<\/p>\n

The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn\u2019t forgotten them.<\/p>\n

The description \u201ca powerful villain no one can even see\u201d doesn\u2019t match any of the film\u2019s confirmed villains, but it could describe Grey, one of the world\u2019s most powerful mutants. Grey can\u2019t become invisible in the traditional sense, but she can turn herself effectively invisible with a telekinetic cloaking ability.<\/p>\n

It is interesting that the synopsis describes the new mystery character as \u201ca powerful villain\u201d\u2014if it does refer to Grey, introducing her to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an unambiguous villain instead of a complex character who vacillates between heroic and villainous tendencies seems like something of an odd choice.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re unlikely to get any more clarity on Sink\u2019s character until Spider-Man: Brand New Day debuts in theaters on July 31. In the meantime, you can pre-purchase tickets for the film starting on Wednesday, June 17.<\/p>\n
