\nMinister Abbas Araghchi said Tuesday that ending the war in Lebanon is a
\nbinding component of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached with the
\nUnited States, and that any Israeli military presence or strikes on Lebanese
\nterritory would constitute a violation of that agreement.<\/p>\n
The MoU carries
\ntwo distinct parties, Araghchi clarified in a statement: Iran and Israel on one
\nside, and Iran and Hezbollah on the other. \u201cAny Israeli military attack on
\nLebanon or continuation of its occupation there would nullify the agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n
A formal
\nsigning ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Geneva, to be attended by Araghchi,
\nIranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and US Vice President JD
\nVance, though neither side has officially confirmed its delegation. The
\nceremony will initiate a 60-day negotiating window, during which the nuclear
\nfile and sanctions relief will be addressed \u2014matters Araghchi specified are
\nreserved for that second phase and are not part of the MoU itself.<\/p>\n
Lebanese Israeli outlet
\nPresident Joseph Aoun<\/a> expressed hope the deal would lead to a full Israeli
\nwithdrawal from Lebanese territory and “an end to the suffering of the
\nLebanese people,” calling on all parties to rally behind the state.
\nIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> pledged to keep Israeli forces in
\nsecurity zones established in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.<\/p>\n
\nMaariv reported that Beirut has been designated a prohibited zone for Israeli
\nmilitary operations under the terms of the MoU.<\/p>\n
