Ty Amundsen has joined Bobby Hurley\u2019s men\u2019s basketball coaching staff at Arizona State, following a highly successful run at Goodyear Millennium High School. Amundsen, who left Millennium three weeks ago without revealing his next move, led the Tigers to multiple deep playoff runs, including a 5A state runner-up finish in 2019 and 2020, and an Open Division runner-up in 2023. He built Millennium into one of Arizona\u2019s top programs, highlighted by the return of 5-star senior Cameron Holmes and high-profile sophomore transfer Adan Diggs for the upcoming season. Both players are considered among the top recruits nationally, with Holmes being heavily recruited by ASU since his sophomore year.<\/p>\n
This marks Amundsen\u2019s first college coaching position. A veteran of Arizona high school basketball, he previously guided Goodyear Estrella Foothills to three straight 3A state titles from 2008\u201310 and spent time at Phoenix St. Mary\u2019s before revitalizing Millennium in 2017. Amundsen\u2019s coaching success is complemented by his family\u2019s basketball legacy \u2014 his son J.T., Millennium\u2019s all-time leader in made 3-pointers, now plays at Northern Arizona, and Holmes\u2019 older brother, DaRon, a standout at Dayton and recent first-round NBA draft pick, plays for the Denver Nuggets.
