{"id":707765,"date":"2026-06-16T16:34:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T16:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/707765\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T16:34:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T16:34:09","slug":"see-duff-mckagan-keith-morris-praise-d-o-a-in-new-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/707765\/","title":{"rendered":"See Duff McKagan, Keith Morris Praise D.O.A. in New Documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tGuns N\u2019 Roses bassist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/duff-mckagan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_duff-mckagan\" data-tag=\"duff-mckagan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duff McKagan<\/a> and Circle Jerks frontman Keith Morris marvel at the impact that the punk band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/d-o-a\/\" id=\"auto-tag_d-o-a\" data-tag=\"d-o-a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">D.O.A.<\/a> had in the Eighties in a clip from the new documentary, Something Better Change. \u201cD.O.A. was bigger than life,\u201d McKagan says, heaping praise on the Canadian group fronted by Joey \u201cShithead\u201d Keithley. \u201cThey were, to me, as big as Led Zeppelin. I owe so much to what I am today to him and to his band.\u201d The film, which tells Keithley\u2019s story, is now available on streaming.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the clip, Morris recalls seeing D.O.A. opening for X at the L.A. venue the Starwood. \u201cD.O.A. came out and decided to just level the Starwood,\u201d he says. \u201cIt was an incredible show. Jesus Christ, man, how is X going to play after that?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe film, directed by Scott Crawford (Salad Days, Creem), follows Keithley as he campaigns in British Columbia for reelection as city councillor for that province\u2019s Burnaby, where he\u2019s a member of the Green Party. He was first elected in 2018 and again in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut while politics take center stage, Keithley\u2019s life on other stages play a major part of the documentary, as Fugazi\u2019s Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, the Dead Kennedys\u2019 Jello Biafra and East Bay Ray, and Dave Grohl all join McKagan and Morris in praising the artist. \u201cIt was important for me to show the impact that Joe Keithley and D.O.A. had on notable musicians in this film, because it helps illustrate the portrait of Joe as the activist and elected official he is today,\u201d Crawford tells Rolling Stone.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWhen I got to see D.O.A. the first time, I was 13 years old and I was eight feet away from \u2019em,\u201d McKagan says. \u201cThe ferocity of how they did their thing was genuine, and it just blew my mind.
