{"id":709703,"date":"2026-06-17T15:16:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T15:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/709703\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T15:16:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T15:16:27","slug":"nurses-at-jefferson-einstein-philadelphia-hospital-authorize-strike-nbc10-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/709703\/","title":{"rendered":"Nurses at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital authorize strike \u2013 NBC10 Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 1,200 nurses at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/tag\/north-philadelphia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">North Philadelphia<\/a> have voted to authorize a strike as their negotiations with management continue for a new contract, their union announced on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>The union&#8217;s members voted 96% in favor of authorizing a strike, which gives leaders the ability to initiate one, but does not mean that a strike is imminent. <\/p>\n<p>In a press release, the union&#8217;s leaders said they have been working without a contract since April and are asking for improvements in nurse staffing and security, as well as a limit to cuts to benefits and departments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a healing mission,\u201d said PASNAP President Maureen May. \u201cWe want to heal our patients. We want to heal our community. And we want to be a part of healing a system that doesn\u2019t always have our backs. That\u2019s why we are prepared to take action\u2014not because we want conflict, but because our patients and caregivers deserve better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Jefferson Health spokesperson sent a statement to NBC10 in response to the strike being authorized. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are disappointed that PASNAP has voted to authorize a strike. This action\u00a0risks putting\u00a0disruption ahead of patients and community members. While a strike is not imminent, this vote sends the wrong message at a time when our community needs stability, partnership, and a shared commitment to care\u2014especially as Philadelphia prepares to host major national and global events that will place increased demand on our healthcare system,&#8221; the spokesperson wrote. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital\u00a0remains\u00a0focused on our patients and will continue to provide safe, high-quality care to everyone who depends on us.
