In December 2025, Nick Reiner<\/a> was arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents, beloved filmmaker Rob Reiner<\/a> and photographer\/producer Michele Reiner. The two were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Nick was eventually charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has since pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n

On June 8, ahead of his trial, Nick petitioned a California court for access to a trust fund established in his name by his parents. Court documents obtained by People<\/a> reveal that Nick plans to use the funds to bring back well-known defense attorney Alan Jackson as his lawyer.<\/p>\n

TMZ<\/a> now reports that Jodi Montgomery, the trustee overseeing the trust, has agreed to file paperwork requesting a judge\u2019s approval for Nick\u2019s petition asking for money he claims he was supposed to receive when he turned 30 in 2023<\/p>\n

Sources told TMZ that while Montgomery will submit the request, the decision to hand over the funds ultimately rests with the judge.<\/p>\n

Although many believed Nick\u2019s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, were stopping him from accessing the money, industry insider Rob Shuter<\/a> recently reported that it\u2019s actually Montgomery who has caused issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe trustee and the siblings are not on the same page,\u201d a legal source told Shuter. \u201cJake and Romy seem willing to see trust funds used for legal fees. The trustee has taken a much harder line.\u201d<\/p>\n

The dispute over the trust fund has become a major challenge for Nick. Still, Alan Jackson has made it clear he would consider returning as Nick\u2019s attorney if funding is ensured.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wants access to the money so he can hire the lawyer of his choice,\u201d a separate source said of Nick. \u201cAnd based on the filings, his brother and sister don\u2019t appear to be standing in the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
