As part of a new recurring feature, IndieWire will each week exclusively share a\u00a0box office<\/a>\u00a0chart via Rentrak looking at the top 10 releases in specialized release, presented in full with added commentary.<\/p>\n

After seven weeks in release, the Italian road trip comedy \u201cThe Last One for the Road\u201d is available on digital this week. We bring that up because the film<\/a> from director Francesco Sossai and distributor Music Box Films<\/a> made a push back into our specialized top 10, going up 154 percent from the weekend prior.<\/p>\n

The film follows two middle-aged friends who swear each drink is their last, only to go on a bender across the Italian countryside with a shy architecture student. To date domestically it has made $49,523, adding another $5.5K this weekend, per Rentrak. That\u2019s a drop in the bucket compared to what it had done in Italy last fall, where it has reached $2.8 million worldwide. The film first premiered at Cannes before playing the festival circuit at TIFF and NYFF, and it now came in at #6 on our specialized chart. <\/p>\n

Magnolia\u2019s \u201cCarolina Caroline\u201d topped the list again this week<\/a>, though it dropped its screen count significantly and fell 76 percent in weekend two. Films like \u201cJack Johnson: Surfilmusic,\u201d \u201cTime and Water<\/a>,\u201d and the documentary \u201cEveryone Is Lying to You For Money,\u201d the latter now in its ninth week, are all holding well as they add theaters. And for new openings, sneaking into the top 10 was \u201cPromised Sky,\u201d an acclaimed Tunisian film that first played in Un Certain Regard in 2025 at Cannes. Film Forum in NY hosted the U.S. theatrical premiere and it made $2,848 this weekend from the single screen. <\/p>\n

IndieWire\u2019s criteria for inclusion on the Specialized Chart looks at independent and mini-major distributors with films that at their widest release at any point are below 500 screens, excluding event cinema, re-releases, and major Bollywood or Chinese North American releases.<\/p>\n
