Many of the nation\u2019s top amateur golfers will be in Johnstown this week for the 85th Sunnehanna Amateur.<\/p>\n
The tournament runs Wednesday through Saturday. The field will be cut to the top 62 players and ties after the third round. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
Among the 2026 field are five players with WPIAL roots: Fox Chapel\u2019s David Fuhrer II and Carson Kittsley, Baldwin\u2019s Michael Quallich, Butler\u2019s Hunter Swidzinski and Penn-Trafford\u2019s Nick Turowski.<\/p>\n
Swidzinski got into the field by winning a qualifier Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Sunnehanna Amateur has a storied history, with past champions including Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Brad Faxon, Ben Crenshaw and Pittsburgh\u2019s Nathan Smith.<\/p>\n
Other PGA players to play include the late Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Scottie Scheffler, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed.<\/p>\n
Turowski and Fuhrer II played in last year\u2019s tournament, and they hope for a better finish. Both played the first three rounds but missed the cut.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am looking forward to competing,\u201d Turowski said. \u201cThis is a big summer for me. I am playing better, and I need to continue to challenge myself and I have been playing well. <\/p>\n
\u201cI want that to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n
Turowski won the WPGA Spring Stroke Play event May 1 at Hannastown Golf Club and then finished third at the West Penn Amateur on June 9.<\/p>\n
He and Swidzinski shared the lead entering the final round, but Kittsley passed them.<\/p>\n
Turowski also finished strong during his third collegiate season at West Virginia. <\/p>\n
He shot a bogey-free
\n5-under-par 67 to finish 18th at the NCAA Marana Regional on May 20 at The Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Ariz.<\/p>\n
Turowski\u2019s round is the second lowest recorded by a Mountaineer in an NCAA event. His four-round total was 6-under 214.<\/p>\n
Kittsley also is looking forward to competing against some of the top players in the world.<\/p>\n
The 17-year-old was the youngest player to win the West Penn Amateur.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just have to stick to my process,\u201d said Kittsley, a two-time PIAA Class 3A champion. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just want to go out and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
The only top-15 player competing in the tournament is Tyler Watts, the reigning champion who is ranked
