{"id":710581,"date":"2026-06-18T02:10:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T02:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/710581\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T02:10:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T02:10:15","slug":"tigers-outfielder-wenceel-perez-injured-in-freak-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/710581\/","title":{"rendered":"Tigers outfielder Wenceel Perez injured in freak accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HOUSTON (AP) \u2014 The <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/detroit-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Tigers<\/a> were without two players in a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tigers-astros-score-b673c268c4570645e06dadcaa5ede5ee\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">4-2 loss<\/a> to the Houston Astros on Wednesday, missing outfielder Wenceel Perez due to a freak accident and second baseman Gleyber Torres with an oblique strain.<\/p>\n<p>Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Perez was hit in the the face by a resistance band in the training room following Tuesday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n<p>The team put Torres on the 10-day IL, retroactive to June 15. The three-time All-Star also went on the IL in May with an oblique strain and missed time last year with the same injury.<\/p>\n<p>Torres is hitting .280 with four homers and 18 RBIs this season.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit also reinstated right-hander Casey Mize from the injured list and put him on the mound at Houston.
