The former Sonic Youth musician released her third solo album in March <\/p>\n

\n\tKim Gordon<\/a> stopped by The Tonight Show<\/a> to perform her recent song \u201cPlay Me.\u201d The musician, clad in a Knicks jersey, took the late-night stage alongside her band to showcase the blues-y rock tune, off her recent album of the same name. <\/p>\n

\n\tPlay Me, released in March, is the former Sonic Youth<\/a> member\u2019s third solo album<\/a>. For the LP, Gordon teamed up again with Justin Raisen, who collaborated with her on her past two solo efforts.\u00a0Her goal with the record was for it to be \u201cmore beat oriented than the last one.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have to say, the thing that influenced me most was the news,\u201d Gordon said of the new album\u2019s lyrics. \u201cWe are in some kind of \u2018post empire\u2019 now, where people just disappear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t have the kind of voice to be a\u00a0singer-singer, and I get really inspired by rhythm and beats,\u201d Gordon told Rolling Stone<\/a> of making the album. \u201cOccasionally a melody will pop out of somewhere accidentally, but this kind of vocal just feels most natural for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added, \u201cI see the music I\u2019m making now as really \u2014 without sounding pretentious \u2014 it is kind of my art, in a way. It\u2019s not really aspiring to be anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGordon is currently touring in support of Play Me. She performs tonight in New York City and continues around the U.S. through the summer.
