The remnants of former Tropical Storm Arthur unleashed tropical moisture across the Gulf Coast and Deep South this week, producing widespread flash flooding and rainfall totals topping 20 inches in parts of Louisiana.<\/p>\n
Over the past 24 hours, storm reports have poured in from across the Gulf Coast, with flooding swamping communities along the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama coasts, as well as areas farther inland.<\/p>\n
According to FOX Weather rainfall data through Thursday, Plaucheville, Louisiana, recorded an astonishing 22.71 inches of rain since Wednesday, while Simmesport, Louisiana, measured 17.66 inches.<\/p>\n
In Mississippi, Perkinston received 12.38 inches, Whites Crossing picked up 10.51 inches and Kiln reported nearly 10 inches of rain.<\/p>\n
\nThe extraordinary rainfall led to dangerous flooding across portions of Louisiana and Mississippi, where roads were submerged, neighborhoods were inundated and emergency crews responded to numerous water rescues.<\/p>\n
The FOX Forecast Center is tracking another potentially dangerous day of excessive rainfall on Friday as deep tropical moisture continues streaming across the Southeast.<\/p>\n
The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level 3 of 4 Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall on Friday across a large portion of the Southeast, signaling the potential for widespread flash flooding and locally catastrophic impacts.<\/p>\n
More than 2.4 million people are included within the higher-end flood threat zone, which stretches from portions of Louisiana and Mississippi eastward into Alabama and Georgia.<\/p>\n
\nCities within the risk area include Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; Montgomery, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia; Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Slidell, Louisiana; Biloxi, Mississippi; and Mobile, Alabama.<\/p>\n
