LIV Golf\u2019s two biggest stars are already headed home from the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.\u00a0And with nary a golfer from the upstart tour within eight strokes of Round 2 leader Wyndham Clark at 7 under par, LIV\u2019s no-good, very bad 2026 continued Friday.<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau finished one stroke below the cutline after firing a 5-over-par 75 on Friday, meaning the two-time U.S. Open champion will miss the weekend of a major tournament for the third consecutive time after disappointing finishes at the Masters<\/a> and PGA Championship<\/a>. The YouTube sensation was joined by 2021 U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm, who went from sitting in the top 10 after the first round with a 2-under 68 to out of the tournament completely with a second-round 78.<\/p>\n

Dustin Johnson\u2019s free fall was just as dramatic, as the two-time major winner dropped from second on the leaderboard after 18 holes to just above the 4-over cutline after a second-round 77 put him at 3 over after two days. A quadruple bogey on the par-4 15th hole had Johnson teetering at 4 over, but he managed to get on the green in two on the par-5 16th and two-putted for a birdie.<\/p>\n

Those three stars\u2019 struggles mirrored those of several other LIV golfers at the notoriously difficult Shinnecock Hills over the past two days.<\/p>\n

Of the 13 LIV golfers entered in the U.S. Open, only six will play this weekend. And three of them \u2014 Laurie Canter, Peter Uihlein and Caleb Surratt \u2014 just barely made it after finishing right on the cutline at 4 over. The cherry on top? A Joaquin Niemann meltdown on the par-4 sixth hole<\/a> late Thursday night that saw the Chilean golfer throw a club and card an 11.<\/p>\n

Tyrrell Hatton is LIV\u2019s best hope of claiming the tour\u2019s first major championship since DeChambeau won the 2024 U.S. Open. The Englishman, who tied for third at this year\u2019s Masters, is nine strokes back of the lead and tied for 34th after going 74-68 over the first two rounds.<\/p>\n

Among the other notable golfers to miss the cut were two-time U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka (+10); last year\u2019s champion, J.J. Spaun (+8); Viktor Hovland (+5); Shane Lowry (+6); and Cameron Smith (+6).<\/p>\n
