{"id":715917,"date":"2026-06-20T17:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T17:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/715917\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T17:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T17:54:11","slug":"disneylands-autopia-must-switch-to-electric-vehicles-to-comply-with-californias-emissions-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/715917\/","title":{"rendered":"Disneyland&#8217;s Autopia must switch to electric vehicles to comply with California&#8217;s emissions standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Disneyland must swap out the gas-powered engines in the ride cars for the iconic Autopia ride by early next year or the park will be forced to shutter the attraction, according to local reports.<\/p>\n<p>The park must comply with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/19\/opinion\/heres-what-can-come-next-with-climate-change-fever-finally-breaking\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California\u2019s strict emissions <\/a>regulations by February 2027, according to the Orange County Register. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Autopia was one of the original attractions of the Anaheim theme park when it opened in July 1955, and the only one left in Tomorrowland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/02\/us-news\/honda-recalling-nearly-99k-vehicles-over-vital-defect-that-can-unintentionally-deploy-airbags\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Honda, which <\/a>sponsors the ride, forgot to certify the ride\u2019s engines in an apparent administrative error in 2023, the MouseChat website reported.<\/p>\n<p>Disney then contacted the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/19\/us-news\/why-california-drivers-ctill-cant-buy-cheaper-gas-despite-new-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California Air Resources Board,<\/a> which issued a violation in 2024, forcing the park to pay a $56,250 fine and change the ride.<\/p>\n<p>Disney told the Register the error had no impact on the environment.<\/p>\n<p>The company told The Los Angeles Times that the vehicles will switch to electric by next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/26\/us-news\/cheaper-gas-alternative-converts-ethanol-into-fuel-for-californians\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">convert from gas engines\u00a0<\/a>in the next few years,\u201d Disney said in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Disney imagineers are working on the design and engineering of the electric ride vehicles, officials said, according to the Register.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.63578275;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39737804\" width=\"965\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-mickey-mouse-projected-front-131639370.jpg\" alt=\"Mickey Mouse projected onto Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.\" class=\"wp-image-39737804\"  \/>Disneyland\u2019s classic Autopia ride faces closure if it doesn\u2019t ditch gas engines for electric by early next year.
