IT IS MOST CERTAINLY HEIGHTEN. THOSE ARE SOME PRETTY CREDIBLE FROM FOOTAGE AND SEE THE FIRE CREEPING UP ON PLACES IN THE TURNPIKE. AND WE ARE SEEING SOME RAIN AND A LOT OF RAIN WELL, UNFORTUNATELY LOOKING TO MOVE TOWARD THE EAST HOPEFULLY THAT HELP MAYBE PUT IT. ARE DAMPER ON SOME OF THOSE SHOWERS. ARE SOME OF THOSE FIRES IN SOME OF THE AREAS AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT OUR GULF COAST LIVE RADAR RIGHT NOW. WE’RE SEEING A LOT OF ACTIVITY ON THE EAST COAST OF THE STATE, BUT NOT MUCH AS FAR AS THE ACTIVITY GOES HERE ACROSS THE GULF COAST. WE ARE SEEING A FEW OF THOSE SHOWERS BEGINNING TO SLOWLY ENCROACH TOWARD THE WEST. BUT MOST OF THAT IS RIGHT OVER ALLIGATOR ALLEY. SO IF YOU KNOW ANYONE DRIVING ON ALLIGATOR ALLEY THIS EVENING, THEY ARE GOING TO BE DEALING WITH SOME PRETTY DECENT DOWNPOURS PAT FULL OF LIGHTNING HERE ACROSS THE AREA. THE LIGHTNING COUNTER OVER THE LAST 15 MINUTES SHOWS ABOUT 304 LIGHTNING STRIKES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS AREA JUST HERE INTO EASTERN COLLIER COUNTY. AND THAT IS SLOWLY BEGINNING TO WORK ITS WAY TOWARD THE EAST, THE WEST. BUT I DO THINK THAT WE ARE GOING TO REMAIN MOSTLY DRY HERE, ESPECIALLY ALONG I-75 AND US. 41. THE BIG STORY HERE ACROSS THE GULF COAST IS MOST CERTAINLY THE HEAT. THE TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE AREA IS VERY WARM. WE’RE SEEING TEMPERATURES INTO THE 90’S IN PLACES LIKE CAPE CORAL, 90 DEGREES AND THAT CAR RANCH A LITTLE COOLER PLACES LIKE FORT MYERS, 89 DEGREES AND NOTICING HERE TOWARD THE LAKE, A LITTLE COLDER. AND THAT’S JUST DUE TO THE RAIN THAT WE SAW BEGINNING TO POUR DOWN. AND SOME OF THOSE SECTIONS NEAR LAKE OKEECHOBEE. SO THE BIG STORY IS GOING TO BE THE HEAT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE THE HEAT WITH HIGHS INTO THE MID 90’S AND WITH HIGHER DEW POINT IT IS GOING TO FEEL LIKE THE TRIPLE DIGITS. A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO. YOU MAKE SURE YOU’RE STAYING HYDRATED, TAKING PLENTY OF BREAKS. AND IF YOU CAN JUST ENJOY THE AIR-CONDITIONED CAUSE, IT IS GOING TO BE CERTAINLY WARM. CURRENT TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE BOARD WAS SLOWLY BEGINNING TO COOL THINGS OFF WHEN TO GO TO 91 DEGREES. 89 DEGREES IN NAPLES IN 89 DEGREES. ALSO IN FORT MYERS. BUT WHEN YOU ADD IN THE HUMIDITY, IT IS FEELING ALMOST LIKE THE TRIPLE DIGITS HERE WITH SLOWLY BEGINNING TO COOL THINGS OFF, BUT PLACES LIKE GATEWAY. LOOK AT THAT. 106 DEGREES FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES. 100 DEGREES IN FORT MYERS BEACH. THAT IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE ACROSS THE AREA. WHEN YOU THROW IN THAT VERY, VERY MOIST ATMOSPHERE. AND ALSO SEEN HERE 104 DEGREES FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES IN NAPLES OVER THE NEXT 2 HOURS. WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SLOWLY COOL THINGS OFF. BUT WITH MOISTURE AROUND, WE’RE NOT GOING TO REALLY SEE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR TEMPERATURES TO REALLY COOL LOOK AT OUR LOWS ARE GOING TO BE INTO THE UPPER 70’S OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. HIGHS ARE GOING TO BE INTO THE MID 90’S. RAIN CHANCES, JUST TYPICAL OR AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. SO THE MAIN STORY IS GOING TO BE HOT. IT’S GOING TO BE HUMID OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SEE. I WOULD SAY ABOUT A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN AS WE GET LATER ON INTO THE WEEK. HEAT INDEX VALUES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE VERY WARM HERE ACROSS THE AREA. AND A LOOK AT THAT. A HIGH HE HEAT INDEX VALUE OF 107 ON TUESDAY AS WELL. SO IT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO FEEL VERY WARM. SO USUALLY THIS TIME OF YEAR WE LOOK FOR RAIN TO HELP COOL US OFF OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SEE THE OPPORTUNITY OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS ARE GOING TO SEE OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE SHOWERS TO CONTINUE. I WOULD SAY RIGHT HERE IN INTERIOR SECTIONS ACROSS THE GULF COAST, WE WANT TO DRY THINGS OUT FOR TOMORROW. WE’RE GOING TO RESTART WANT TO START OFF MOSTLY DRY CONDITIONS. BUT WITH THAT ON SHORE, WHEN THERE MAY BE OPPORTUNITY FOR A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS POPPING UP IN SOME OF OUR COASTAL SECTIONS. BUT AS WE GET LATER ON INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING, WE’LL SEE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR MAYBE A FEW SHOWERS, BUT THEY’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO MOVE TOWARD LAKE OKEECHOBEE AND MOVE TOWARD THE EAST. SO I DO THINK THAT FOR TOMORROW WE ARE GOING TO BE MOSTLY DRY ALONG THE GULF COAST. METRO. AND OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, THAT WIND DIRECTION IS GOING TO ENCOURAGE RAIN TO BASICALLY SET UP IN OUR INTERIOR SECTIONS, NOTICING NOT MUCH RAIN HERE ACROSS THE AS FOR I-75 AND US 41 CORRIDOR. SO IT DOESN’T APPEAR AS THOUGH WE’RE GOING TO SEE RAIN OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS IN AN ABUNDANCE. AND THAT’S ALL DUE TO SOME DUST THAT IS GOING TO SLOWLY BEGIN TO WORK ITS WAY HERE ACROSS THE GULF COAST, NOTICING A LITTLE BIT OF DUST BEGINNING TO PULL POP UP IN CERTAIN SECTIONS ACROSS THE GULF COAST FOR NEXT WEEK. NOW THERE’S NO ACTIVITY IN THE HURRICANE DEPARTMENT RIGHT

Showers and heat continue across the Gulf Coast Saturday evening

Showers and storms will slowly move toward interior sections of southwest Florida Sunday evening.

   Updated: 7:06 PM EDT Jun 20, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Expect mild and muggy conditions across the Gulf Coast Saturday night. Some showers and an isolated storm are most likely for areas near Lake Okeechobee, but a stray shower over the metro can’t be ruled out. Overnight clearing is expected, but we will still be left with sticky conditions through the night. Overnight lows will struggle to dip below 80 degrees. Slightly drier air on Sunday will reduce rain coverage, but this will make for a very warm afternoon. Highs are once again expected to reach the middle 90s; this will make heat index values feel like the triple digits. Heat indices could make it feel as hot as 110 degrees for areas east of I-75. Some rain is possible in the afternoon, with areas near Lake Okeechobee seeing the highest chances. Tropics: No development is expected over the next seven days.
