No. 10 overall pick Francis \u2018Sisi\u2019 Mauigoa will be the starting right guard for the New York Giants. A 23-year-old rookie starting at that spot is a big change for a Giants\u2019 team that had Greg Van Roten, whose pro career began in 2012, at right guard for the past two seasons.<\/p>\n
That, though, is not the only big change for the Giants on the offensive line.<\/p>\n
Mike Bloomgren is the team\u2019s new offensive line coach, replacing the popular Carmen Bricillo, who did well in that role over the past two seasons. The Giants\u2019 offensive line was 15th in the NFL last season using the Pro Football and Sports Network Impact Score as a measuring stick, its best standing since being 16th in 2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a lot of respect for Carm,\u201d Bloomgren said recently. \u201cI think he did a great job with the room. So it\u2019s great that they have such a good baseline of knowledge and an understanding of this great game.\u201d<\/p>\n
This will mark only Bloomgren\u2019s second season as an NFL offensive line coach after he held that job with the Cleveland Browns a year ago. Bloomgren, though, is an accomplished, veteran coach.<\/p>\n

How has Bloomgren approached trying to help a mostly veteran offensive line group?<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we\u2019re always trying to build their toolbox,\u201d Bloomgren said. \u201cWe spent the first part of our time here in February and March in addition to preparing for the draft and free agency, we were really trying to evaluate these guys and what they did exceptionally well and what we thought maybe a tool here or a tool there could help them with.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you put in any new system, which we did, and we\u2019re slightly different in some ways and very different in others. But the techniques change. The names change. And so a lot of it has been really trying to build the foundational knowledge so this room can go out and play football fast.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jermaine Eluemunor\u2019s adjustment<\/p>\n
No Giants\u2019 offensive lineman feels Bricillo\u2019s absence more than Eluemunor. This marks the first time since 2018 that Eluemunor is not on a team where Bricillo is an assistant.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s definitely been different,\u201d Eluemunor said. \u201cI think Bloom and Carm are two great O-line coaches. Obviously, Carm helped me to get where I am right now. Bloom\u2019s thing is you\u2019ve been here and you\u2019ve gotten here but how can you take that next step. It\u2019s been really cool just picking Bloom\u2019s brain, being out here just seeing little things I can get better at.<\/p>\n
\u201cBloom and (assistant offensive line coach) Grant (Newsome) are helping me with the little technique things that will make a big difference come Sundays.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bloomgren is hoping to give Eluemunor \u201ca couple tools\u201d, and not reinvent the wheel.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we\u2019re talking about schematics, when we\u2019re talking about techniques, this guy protected the passer really well last year,\u201d Bloomgren said. \u201cReally proud of what Jermaine did. Really glad we have him back in the building.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd so, again, there\u2019s not a whole lot there. There\u2019s a couple tools you could add, a couple things, hey, think about this. But for the most part, like in pass protection, you\u2019re really going to say, like, block your man.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we\u2019re going to give him tools to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t a secret that the Giants were a better pass-blocking than run-blocking team in 2025. The Giants, of course, are now a John Harbaugh coached football team. One thing that follows is a renewed emphasis on running the football, and inevitable changes in how Giants\u2019 offensive linemen will be asked to execute those blocks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look at the potential there and the ability, and really you look at what they did in the past to get a baseline and to understand what you can try to improve,\u201d Bloomgren said. \u201cThis system is going to be so much different than what they\u2019ve done in the past from a run game standpoint.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t be happier with how the group has attacked this offseason \u2026 even though we\u2019re not in pads and it\u2019s football-like, not football, you\u2019re still seeing great growth out of these guys.\u201d<\/p>\n
Early thoughts on Mauigoa<\/p>\n
Bloomgren had a glowing early assessment of the prized rookie.<\/p>\n
\u201cCompletely in love with football. And I think not just playing football, but the ability to prepare the right way and the desire to prepare the right way,\u201d Bloomgren said. \u201cI think he comes in with a great baseline of knowledge. I think you look back at him being coached by Alex Mirabal (at Miami) and nobody in college football is teaching it better and getting a better product out there than Alex. And so that\u2019s really nice.<\/p>\n
