Everybody loves seeing cute pictures of baby animals, and this tiny skunk named Marshmallow totally fits the bill. The TODAY Show shared a video of the little guy, who was born at the Cincinnati Zoo about a week ago, and he’s absolutely adorable!<\/p>\n

Marshmallow is so small that he fits in the palm of the zookeeper’s hand. The TODAY Show<\/a>explains that he will be hand-fed and cared for by zoo staffers until he is ready to join his other skunk family members. We hope the Zoo will share more videos of him as he continues to grow!<\/p>\n

Marshmallow is so small! We’re not sure why he’s not with his mom, but a viewer left a comment with a possible answer. @Ericka shared, “For those wondering why little Marshmallow isn’t with his mom, he was delivered via C-section due to complications. He’s only being hand-fed until mom recovers and it is determined she can care for him.”<\/p>\n

All About Baby Skunks<\/p>\n

The Cincinnati Zoo also welcomed four adorable baby skunks<\/a> to their family in May of 2023, when local news channel WLWT 5<\/a> shared details about the little ones, “Zoo officials said skunk kits are born with their eyes closed and a little bit of fur. The markings they are born with will stay with them through life and each one is distinct.<\/p>\n

The skunk kits will open their eyes when they are around three weeks old, but even before that they have the ability to “spray”<\/a> at just one week old.<\/p>\n

Thinking about getting a baby skunk of your own? Many people keep skunks as pets, and they can be surprisingly affectionate and cuddly. But they can also be mischievous and challenging to care for. Plus, depending on where you live, it might not even be legal. In many states, skunks are considered exotic pets<\/a> and aren’t allowed. Be sure to check your local laws before bringing one home.<\/p>\n

Skunks also like to stay busy. When they get bored, their curiosity kicks in\u2014and because they\u2019re smart, they\u2019ll quickly learn how to open drawers and cabinets to get into things they shouldn\u2019t. They\u2019re also natural diggers, so don\u2019t be surprised if they start digging in your carpet, furniture, bed, or couch, anything that looks like it would make a good den.<\/p>\n
