I want to be on that 10-year wall<\/a>,\u201d McKivitz said.<\/p>\nAs a fifth-round rookie in 2020, the former West Virginia tackle appeared in 14 games with three starts. In August of 2021, however, he was released.<\/p>\n
The 49ers brought McKivitz back to the practice squad after he cleared waivers. He returned to the active roster in November of that year. And he hasn\u2019t looked back.<\/p>\n
After Mike McGlinchey signed with the Broncos as a free agent in 2023, McKivitz became the 49ers\u2019 starting right tackle. And he has started every game since then \u2014 including all seven playoff games and Super Bowl LVIII.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to leave here,\u201d McKivitz said. \u201cObviously being cut, I\u2019ve got some scars there. But there was a reason why I was drafted here, why I was cut here, and why I still play here. Now I\u2019ve had three good seasons of starting and I\u2019m going into the fourth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last September, McKivitz signed a three-year, $45 million extension that runs through 2028.
