Anthropic only released the full version of Mythos to a select group of partners before releasing a public version with guardrails called Fable 5 on June 9.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq00093b6raegrxp1g@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Now, the Trump administration says some of those guardrails have failed, potentially enabling hackers to add an extremely capable tool to their arsenal. Trump said at the G7 summit on Wednesday negotiations with Anthropic are \u201cgoing fine.\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/06\/19\/trump-axios-show-interview-transcript-marc-caputo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told Axios<\/a> in an interview published Friday that he no longer views the company as a national security threat. \u201cWell, not now, but a week ago, maybe.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000d3b6rfo9pjkv5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The White House referred CNN to the Commerce Department, which did not respond to requests for comment.\n    <\/p>\n<p>        Where AI regulation stands today<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000f3b6r8gynfzwh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Trump administration has taken a light approach to artificial intelligence regulation so far, hoping to encourage AI advancements to keep the US stay ahead of adversaries like China.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000g3b6rlpeed37k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The administration has rolled back Biden-era policies such as mandatory safety reporting thresholds in favor of voluntary frameworks and state law preemption. But the proposed plan says Congress shouldn\u2019t regulate AI through a single rule-making body and should instead do so through sector-specific regulatory entities. But even that order was delayed at the last minute after Trump said he was worried it would \u201cget in the way\u201d of American AI innovation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000i3b6rk3gkc1bg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Some states have passed their own laws and sued AI companies over safety concerns. California, for example, passed a law requiring AI companies to issue risk frameworks, report safety issues and protect whistleblowers. Florida opened a criminal investigation into OpenAI and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/01\/business\/florida-sues-chatgpt-openai-sam-altman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is suing the company<\/a>. The state alleges OpenAI has harmed children and general consumers and that ChatGPT may have aided and abetted the mass shooting at Florida State University last year. Anthropic was initially given just 90 minutes to pull its models, a source close to the company told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000o3b6rkhq7ejba@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Dozens of cybersecurity researchers, AI entrepreneurs, and corporate executives on Monday signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/freefable.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">open letter<\/a> criticizing the government\u2019s actions and urging the Trump administration to commit to \u201can open, scientific and transparent process of handling AI risk assessments in the future.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000p3b6rnkvtbv8w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Furthermore, they pointed out that advanced AI models can be used by good-faith actors as well.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000q3b6roiyr5bhm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cTo pull the best capabilities away from defenders without a good reason when our adversaries are rapidly advancing is dangerous,\u201d they wrote in the letter.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqigquxq000r3b6r0mt4qp1u@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Some have also questioned the severity of the jailbreak, which a source familiar with the situation said was first flagged to the government by Amazon.
