Chesterfield has tapped its new top executive.<\/p>\n

Chesterfield officials announced Monday that Kevin A. Catlin has been selected to take over the county administrator role from Joe Casey, who is set to retire in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Catlin is currently the county administrator and controller of Kalamazoo County, Michigan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply honored and humbled by the confidence the Board of Supervisors has placed in me to serve as Chesterfield\u2019s next county administrator,\u201d Catlin said in a prepared statement. \u201cThroughout this process, I was consistently impressed by the board\u2019s commitment to excellence, the professionalism of the organization, and the genuine pride employees and residents have in their community.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the new county administrator for Chesterfield, Catlin takes the helm of one of Virginia\u2019s fastest-growing localities. Chesterfield\u2019s government has more than 4,000 full-time employees and a $2.3 billion budget for the upcoming 2027 fiscal year.<\/p>\n

Catlin has more than a decade of experience as an executive in the public sector. At Kalamazoo, he oversees a $325 million annual budget and a workforce of about 1,000 employees. Catlin has been administrator and controller at Kalamazoo since May 2022.<\/p>\n

Catlin was named as the selected finalist in Chesterfield\u2019s national search for a new administrator during an event held Monday. The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors is expected to formally vote on his appointment June 24.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo matter Dr. Catlin\u2019s outstanding academic profile and demonstrated experience, we know that leading Chesterfield requires an exceptional personality and natural ability to engage with others,\u201d Chesterfield Supervisors Vice Chairman Kevin Carroll said in a county news release.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe found in Dr. Catlin someone whose charisma and communication style are going to relate to the community and county workforce in equal measure. He also brings a desire to be part of community where public safety, education, a strong economy and outstanding quality of life aren\u2019t just a goal, but an expectation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Catlin is slated to start at Chesterfield on Aug. 24. Deputy County Administrator Matt Harris is expected to be appointed by the board to serve as interim administrator effective July 1.<\/p>\n

Catlin is taking the reins from Casey, who is retiring July 1 after a 10-year tenure as Chesterfield\u2019s top executive. Casey became Chesterfield administrator in July 2016. He announced his plans to retire<\/a> late last year.<\/p>\n
