LAS VEGAS (KSNV) \u2014 Bill Foley, the majority owner of the Vegas Golden Knights, announced he will put together a bid for an expansion NBA team in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
The Golden Knights released a statement on Foley’s behalf Monday saying that he has retained Morgan Stanley to help build an ownership platform based on his existing sports holdings.<\/p>\n
Foley plans to build a franchise around the foundation created by his NHL team.<\/p>\n
“Las Vegas has earned its place among the great sports cities in America, and an NBA team belongs here,” he said in a statement. “We built the Golden Knights into a championship organization from the ground up, and we are prepared to do it again \u2013 with the same standard, the same commitment to this community, and the same insistence on winning. We have the market, a proven world-class arena, and a best-in-class organization in place. Our intention is to be ready the day the NBA is ready.”<\/p>\n
Other limited partners could join Foley’s bid, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes on the 10-year anniversary of the NHL formally awarding him an expansion team.<\/p>\n
The NBA announced earlier this year that it will explore expansion in Las Vegas and Seattle. A potential franchise is expected to carry a $7-10 billion expansion fee, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n
