The Jewish population of South Florida is growing, and so is the number of restaurants, cafes, bakeries and markets that cater to consumers seeking kosher food.<\/p>\n

Many more have opened since the Sun Sentinel last published a roundup in January.<\/a> Below you will find some freshly minted and some older eateries that have not made our\u00a0previous listings.<\/a><\/p>\n

There are many agencies that certify kosher restaurants<\/a> in South Florida. This list consists of sites that have met the standards of the\u00a0Orthodox Rabbinical Board (ORB)<\/a> of Broward and Palm Beach Counties, a large regional certification agency that has been supervising food establishments for more than 20 years to make sure they follow Jewish dietary laws.<\/p>\n

These businesses close on Jewish holidays and the Jewish Sabbath, usually beginning Friday afternoon and ending Saturday night after dark; some don\u2019t reopen until Sunday. Inside Aroma Market & Catering is this little comfort-food kiosk, offering an assortment of hamburgers, bunned and bun-less, with toppings such as (vegan) cheese and (turkey) bacon. The Fire Bam, a BBQ burger on a bun, goes for $18.95, while a double burger costs $19.95. There are also hot dogs, salads and chicken combos. On the Bamburgers website, founder Bruce Cohen says, \u201cI wanted to create something personal: a place where the community could enjoy the flavors of American comfort food made fully kosher, under the highest standards of Aroma kosher market.\u201d<\/p>\n

This upscale restaurant, a mainstay of the West Palm Beach kosher scene since 2022, opened a Boca Raton location in the spring. The Middle Eastern-fusion menu features kebabs, shawarmas, hummus and Israeli salads, as well as house-made sushi, corned beef, pastrami and brisket. Chicken schnitzel with two sides is $29. Or if you\u2019re in a spending mood, try the ribeye steak for $68. Chocolate mousse and churros are among the desserts ($15).<\/p>\n

Oxtail hummus, anyone? Mamush, which opened in February, touts this starter ($18) among several Middle Eastern, Israeli, North African and Asian offerings on its creative menu. There are also truffle burgers ($28), miso harissa salmon ($36) and ribeye skewers ($48). Posting in the Facebook group \u201cGreat Kosher Restaurants Foodies<\/a>,\u201d one diner wrote: \u201cThe lafa is baked here and very good. Steaks were also delicious.. Highly recommend. Expensive but worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sun Sentinel readers rave about this little falafel\/kebab\/hamburger joint, where a falafel sandwich goes for $14.45 and a chicken shish kebab on pita for $21.45. \u201cTheir pitas are delicious, indeed,\u201d Florida Atlantic University professor Isaac Elishakoff said in an email. \u201cWe prefer to have the kebab plate, whereas our grandkids jump on hamburger, shawarma and hummus.\u201d Delray Beach resident Helene Meltzer agreed: \u201cPlace is clean and very pleasant; all the help very friendly and willing to please. The food is terrific. Falafel, shawarma, pitas are outstanding, hummus the best around. I have eaten there for both lunch and dinner with various friends and never had a bad meal.\u201d<\/p>\n

This Middle Eastern eatery says its dishes are \u201ccrafted with passion.\u201d Try a beef and lamb shawarma plate ($36) or the grilled chicken pita ($22). Then there\u2019s malabi for dessert \u2014 it\u2019s a rose water milk pudding with pistachios and coconut ($7). A diner who recommended the grill in \u201cGreat Kosher Restaurants Foodies<\/a>\u201d said: \u201cGreat shawarma, fresh salads, generous portions, and authentic Israeli flavors. Definitely worth checking out if you\u2019re in Boca.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eden, just east of Interstate 95, opened less than a year ago and offers an assortment of cuts of beef, lamb and chicken you may not find in other grocery stores. This is the place to go for beef feet ($16.99 a pound), cheek meat ($27.99), chicken spleen ($31.99) or ground lamb fat ($7.99). There are also cuts of grass-fed steaks from Argentina and Uruguay, as well as more traditional offerings, such as a whole chicken for $5.99 a pound.<\/p>\n

This Israeli frozen yogurt bar opened in December. What\u2019s Israeli frozen yogurt? Israel\u2019s Haaretz newspaper<\/a> describes it as tart and \u201clip-pursing.\u201d A medium-sized serving, with fresh fruit, chocolate or nuts mixed, goes for $17.99. The shop also serves crepes, waffles, Dutch pancakes, pancake balls, milkshakes, ice cream and fresh-pressed juices.<\/p>\n

Linda Caf\u00e9: 3288 Stirling Road, Hollywood; 954-738-4592; linda.cafe<\/a><\/p>\n

Linda Caf\u00e9 sits among a row of kosher eateries, including Sylvia\u2019s Kosher Place and Joe\u2019s Pizza. It\u2019s a cozy spot to meet a friend for coffee, and it also serves panini sandwiches ($15), tortilla soup ($12) and several egg dishes, including an Israeli Breakfast of three fried eggs, feta cheese, labneh, salad and challah ($19).<\/p>\n

Puro Kosher: 645 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., Hallandale Beach; 954-794-9990; purokosher.com<\/a><\/p>\n

Puro, an Italian dairy restaurant, opened in March and offers pizzas, pastas, salads and desserts. Most pizzas go for $28.99, including the Bianca al Tartufo Negro (with cream, black truffle essence, arugula and parmesan and mozzarella cheeses) and the Golden Confit Potato (parmesan cheese, two types of cream, potato and garlic confits, thyme and parsley). A reviewer on the Yelp crowdsourcing site<\/a>\u00a0called Puro his \u201cnew favorite kosher pizza shop. Service was quick and the quality was excellent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zuka Miami: 900 N. Federal Highway, Hollywood; 877-577-0770; zukamiami.com<\/a><\/p>\n

How about some \u201ckosher Italian Asian fusion\u201d with a hookah lounge mixed in? Besides salads, pastas, sushi and pizzas, Zuka offers the international cuisine of many nations, including churros ($18), Asian hot salad ($24) and yume Gyoza (Japanese dumplings, $24). According to its website: \u201cWe\u2019re more than just a hookah lounge; we\u2019re your go-to spot for relaxation, good vibes, and creating memories.\u201d<\/p>\n
