\u201cFerris Bueller\u2019s Day Off\u201d celebrated its 40th anniversary this month, but not everyone is looking back fondly.<\/p>\n
Mia Sara, who played Ferris\u2019 girlfriend Sloane, told The Sunday Times<\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t really give interviews because making \u2018Ferris Bueller\u2019 was not that good an experience for me. But I\u2019m very aware of what a precious thing this movie is, and I don\u2019t want to disappoint people.\u201d<\/p>\n The now 59-year-old Sara was also the youngest on the set, only 17 years old, and she struggled to connect.<\/p>\n She also \u201cdidn\u2019t get along well with John [Hughes].\u201d<\/p>\n John Hughes wrote, produced, and directed \u201cFerris Bueller,\u201d among many other 80s classics, and according to Sara, was a \u201cstrange guy.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe wanted us all to hang out together and to introduce us to the French New Wave films. But the others were seasoned actors and I was a snotty New York kid and had seen all those movies, so he was frustrated in that desire. I didn\u2019t have the emotional maturity to deal with other people\u2019s egos, or my own,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n Jennifer Grey, who played Ferris\u2019 sister Jeanie, explained, \u201cJohn was not like a normal grown-up. Think about how fast he wrote the script \u2014 that\u2019s not normal, that\u2019s a genius \u2014 and with genius there is a lot of asymmetrical development. So he was very playful and I just really connected with him.\u201d<\/p>\n Sara quit acting almost entirely, choosing instead to focus on writing poetry.<\/p>\n \u201cI never really had the resilience to deal with the audition process.
