If you skipped Monday night’s WNBA action, Brittney Griner became the league’s undisputed defensive queen, Caitlin Clark conquered a new consistency record, and the Dallas Wings played a game of absolute heart-attack central. Here is your comprehensive, detailed breakdown of everything that went down last night.

WNBA Monday Night Scoreboard

Away Team Phoenix Mercury Chicago Sky Dallas Wings Toronto Tempo Indiana Fever 86, Phoenix Mercury 77 The Indiana Fever (10-7) welcomed the Phoenix Mercury (5-12) to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a highly anticipated clash that quickly devolved into an emotional, high-stakes slugfest.

The game began disastrously for Indiana. The Fever managed to score just 6 points in the opening frame—tying the franchise record for the fewest points scored in any single quarter since 2018. Phoenix capitalized on the cold streak, riding an early 11-0 run to build a commanding 16-point advantage.

But then, Caitlin Clark woke up. Behind a blistering 15-point second quarter from the superstar guard, Indiana stormed back with a 35-point explosion to tie the game at 41-41 by halftime. The momentum surged into the third quarter, where the Fever blew the game open, outscoring Phoenix 30-11.

Things got incredibly heated in the fourth quarter. A total of six technical fouls were handed out by the officials, culminating in the ejection of Fever forward Myisha Hines-Allen. Despite the chaos, Indiana held firm to snap their two-game skid.

The Milestones:

Caitlin Clark finished with 24 points and 9 assists, officially setting a WNBA record for the most consecutive games with at least 20 points and 5 assists (6 games). Dallas Wings 112, Seattle Storm 110 (OT) If you love pure, unadulterated offensive basketball, Climate Pledge Arena was the place to be. The Dallas Wings (11-6) edged out the Seattle Storm (3-15) in an overtime thriller that saw the Wings set an all-time WNBA record with 48 made field goals in a single game.

Seattle seemed poised to snap their losing streak, holding a 94-88 lead with only 1:24 left in regulation. Enter Paige Bueckers. The sophomore guard single-handedly dragged Dallas back into the game, scoring the team’s final eight points of regulation—including back-to-back cold-blooded triples—to force overtime.

The extra frame was a heavyweight bout. Bueckers hit a milestone mid-range jumper to cross 1,000 career points, tying Elena Delle Donne as the fourth-fastest player to reach the mark (52 games). With 13.2 seconds remaining in OT, her backcourt partner Azzi Fudd drove the lane for a clutch, go-ahead layup to put Dallas up 111-110. A late steal by Jessica Shepard and an Aziaha James free throw iced the game, handing Seattle its 11th consecutive loss.

The Stat Lines:

Bueckers led Dallas with 27 points, while Fudd poured in a career-high 26 points. Connecticut Sun 92, Chicago Sky 63 The Connecticut Sun (3-15) completely dismantled the Chicago Sky (4-12) in Uncasville, but the final score was secondary to a massive piece of WNBA history.

During the third quarter, Connecticut center Brittney Griner emphatically swatted a layup attempt by Chicago’s Kamilla Cardoso. The block was Griner’s fourth of the night and the 878th of her career, officially passing the late, legendary Margo Dydek to become the WNBA’s all-time career blocks leader.

On the Historic Block: Dydek’s record had stood firmly since 2008, making Griner’s achievement one of the most monumental defensive milestones in basketball history.

As for the game itself, the Sun left no doubt. They rode an explosive 31-point second quarter to take a 17-point halftime lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 33 points. The Sun dominated the glass 49-28 and outscored Chicago 52-24 in the paint.

Key Contributors: Griner led the team with 14 points, while Olivia Nelson-Ododa secured a monstrous double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. The Sky were paced by Kamilla Cardoso, who fought through foul trouble to net 16 points and 14 boards.

Atlanta Dream 94, Toronto Tempo 87 In the final game of the night, the Atlanta Dream (11-4) continued their brilliant season by holding off the expansion Toronto Tempo (8-8) at State Farm Arena.

Atlanta relied heavily on their star-studded starting lineup of Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray, Jordin Canada, and Angel Reese to stymie Toronto’s versatile backcourt. The Tempo stayed within striking distance for most of the night behind rugged interior play from Nyara Sabally and perimeter scoring from Marina Mabrey, but Atlanta’s transition offense proved too potent down the stretch.

The victory keeps Atlanta firmly in the upper echelon of the league standings, while Toronto splits its season momentum right down the middle.

Happy

0

0 %

Sad

0
Excited

0
Sleepy

0

0 %
