{"id":721261,"date":"2026-06-23T13:54:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T13:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/721261\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T13:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T13:54:09","slug":"strong-overnight-storms-topple-trees-knock-out-power-for-hundreds-in-granville-county-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/721261\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong overnight storms topple trees, knock out power for hundreds in Granville County :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of people in Granville County and other parts of central North Carolina lost power after strong storms moved through the area Monday night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/outagemap.duke-energy.com\/#\/current-outages\/ncsc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to Duke Energy<\/a>, close to 1,000 customers were without power in the Granville County area. The outage map showed the majority of those outages were along Highway 96 northwest of Oxford.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 outages were reported near the towns of Stem and Butner. Sporadic outages were reported elsewhere in the Triangle, including a few dozen in Chapel Hill and Durham.<\/p>\n<p>The WRAL Breaking News Tracker found several spots where trees were knocked down on top of power lines and roads in Oxford early Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>As of 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Duke Energy was still assessing damage and did not have a timeframe for when power would be restored. By 6:30 a.m., the number of outages fell to roughly 400 across the viewing area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Powerful storms on Monday evening did significant damage to our west in the Piedmont Triad. Duke Energy reported tens of thousands of outages in the Winston-Salem and Greensboro areas.
