\n\tHong Kong and global\u00a0film icon Jackie Chan<\/a>\u00a0got a rapturous reception at the\u00a078th edition\u00a0<\/a>of the\u00a0Locarno Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0in Switzerland on Saturday evening as he was honored with the Pardo alla Carriera, or Career Leopard award, on the Swiss town\u2019s Piazza Grande square.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBuona sera,\u201d Chan said, showing off his Italian skills with a wave the second he hit the stage. When he received the award, he pointed out that it was \u201cvery, very heavy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe then said: \u201c[I am] just so happy and so honored to be here.\u201d He continued with a thank-you to Locarno<\/a> and the crowd \u201cfor giving me this sweet award\u201d and thanked all directors and stars around the world who have \u201cmade me look good.\u201d And he particularly thanked the Jackie Chan<\/a> fans around the globe, noting: \u201cBecause of you, I am standing here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tChan recalled how his father once asked him if he would still be able to fight at age 60. \u201dI am 71. I still can fight,\u201d the star said to the delight of the crowd. \u201cAlso, this year I\u2019m in the film industry for 64 years.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tBefore posing for photos on stage, Chan closed with a wish for a world united and the words: \u201cLove and peace. Love you all! Ti amo!\u201d He added kissing sounds.<\/p>\n

\n\tEven minutes after the ceremony, fans could still be heard screaming \u201cJackie!\u201d in the areas surrounding the Piazza Grande.<\/p>\n

\n\tEven before the superstar showed up on the stage of the huge central square in Locarno, fans were seen wearing Jackie Chan T-shirts and holding signs saying, \u201cI Love Jackie Chan.\u201d When the big screen at one point showed Chan wearing a short-sleeved shirt taking pictures on a balcony overlooking the square, the crowd started cheering and applauding in delight.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen the screen showed the first images of Chan stepping onto the red carpet in different garb and holding two stuffed animal pandas, the crowd\u2019s excitement kicked into an even higher gear. One group of fans wearing matching red Jackie Chan T-shirts even started a \u201cJackie! Jackie!\u201d chant.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the red carpet, Chan also treated his fans to waves, big smiles, a kiss for a camera and even a martial arts stance. Before he hit the stage, a sizzle reel showcased some of Chan\u2019s signature martial arts, stunt and comedy skills.<\/p>\n

\n\tLocarno attendees and locals alike had already been buzzing about Chan\u00a0sightings the day before, with reports of many people snapping photos of the star via their phones. As part of a tribute to his career, Chan also came to Locarno to\u00a0introduce\u00a0his films\u00a0Project A\u00a0(1983) and\u00a0Police Story\u00a0(1985), on both of which he worked as star and director.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs a Hong Kong cinema fan \u2014\u00a0I\u2019ve written three books on Hong Kong\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Jackie Chan<\/a>\u00a0is a dream come true,\u201d Locarno artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro<\/a> recently told THR.<\/p>\n

\n\tLocarno organizers lauded Chan as an \u201cAsian\u00a0megastar, master filmmaker, and Hollywood mainstay beloved for action films that\u00a0bridged the gap between East and West,\u201d adding that he has \u201cfor almost\u00a060\u00a0years been one of the world\u2019s most recognizable faces.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAdded Nazzaro: \u201cDirector, producer, actor, screenwriter, choreographer, singer, athlete, and daredevil stuntman,\u00a0Jackie Chan\u00a0is both\u00a0a\u00a0key figure in contemporary Asian cinema\u00a0and\u00a0one\u00a0whose influence has rewritten\u00a0the rules of Hollywood cinema. From his years at the China Drama Academy under Master Yu Jim-Yuen,\u00a0working\u00a0at a very young age\u00a0as a stuntman\u00a0in King Hu\u2019s masterpiece\u00a0A Touch of Zen, Chan\u00a0has\u00a0continually\u00a0reinvented martial arts cinema and much beyond it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Pardo alla Carriera is handed out with the support of\u00a0Ascona-Locarno Tourism, the\u00a0destination\u00a0partner of the Locarno festival.\u00a0<\/p>\n
