SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 A year ago, Buster Posey intended to add at the trade deadline before a late-July skid made it an obvious sell situation. There will be no ambiguity this time, but Posey made it clear Tuesday that he only will go so far.<\/p>\n
During a session with reporters prior to Tuesday’s game, Posey said he will examine all options ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline, but gave a quick \u201cno\u201d when asked if he would entertain offers for ace Logan Webb.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trading Webb, the face of the franchise, would be the move that signals a full teardown, something this ownership group has never accepted. Webb has two years left on his contract after the 2026 season and is desperate to get back to the postseason, and the Giants would get a haul back given how well he has pitched since coming off the injured list.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Robbie Ray and Luis Arr\u00e1ez are the players most likely to get dealt over the next six weeks, as both are free agents after this season. Arr\u00e1ez should bring back a good return because of how good he has been on both sides of the ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Giants also could part with several relievers, and it doesn\u2019t seem to be a coincidence that Tyler Mahle is going right back into the rotation after one rehab start. Mahle is on a one-year deal and should have some value if he turns his season around.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The industry speculation in recent days has centered around the players Posey refers to as his \u201cBig Three.\u201d But Rafael Devers, Willy Adames and Matt Chapman are having subpar seasons and are owed a combined $451 million after this season, and the Giants likely would have to chip in tens of millions to deal any of them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Posey said he has not spoken to Chapman and Adames about waiving their no-trade clauses, but he\u2019s open to anything that will jolt a team that\u2019s 15 games under .500 and doesn\u2019t appear to have a clear path to better days.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’ll leave all options on the table,\u201d Posey said. \u201cThe way things are trending now, I’d say that we’ve got the to remain open to seeing what are the best ways we can try to improve the club.\u201d<\/p>\n
