GREECE, N.Y. \u2014 A video shared with News10NBC shows the Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office chasing a red SUV through a golf course in Greece.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The person who took the video says it happened just before 5 p.m. on Sunday at Lakeshore Country Club. In the video, you can see someone jumping out of the moving SUV and running away. <\/p>\n
That led to a foot chase near the 18th hole of the course and a neighborhood in the area. Another video shows damage left behind on the driving range. <\/p>\n
Witnesses describe what they saw <\/p>\n
Joe Lauderdale was standing on the first tee box when the chase unfolded in front of him. His friend gave him a heads up, but not the kind he expected.<\/p>\n
\u201cHeads up, I\u2019m expecting a golf ball. I see a full police chase,\u201d Lauderdale said.<\/p>\n
The vehicle crossed the road, hopped a ditch and passed through the first fairway before going through the 18th green. The driver then jumped out of the moving car and ran on foot.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was pretty electric,\u201d Lauderdale said.<\/p>\n
Lauderdale plays at the course often, and doesn\u2019t plan on stopping soon. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe one cop, he must have been a golfer, because there was one cop who just parked his car and ended up running it out, and I was fully expecting to give up my golf cart for him to just chase after him, because he was the only guy running and parked his car,\u201d said Lauderdale. <\/p>\n
Dom Mangano said he was with his dad hitting golf balls at Lake Shore when he heard police sirens near the road. Then, he sees the car veer onto the course and drive towards him and his dad. <\/p>\n
\u201cI grabbed my dad, jumped out of the way, and once I realized we were safe, I pulled out my camera and started filming,\u201d said Mangano. <\/p>\n
Mangano called his friend to tell him what happened, and the two think they saw the same chase, just at different times. <\/p>\n
\u201cI called him, I was like, \u2018oh my gosh, you won\u2019t believe it there was a car chase across the golf course.\u2019 He goes, \u2018was the car red?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018yes, it was.\u2019 So they had seen the start of it. And I had seen the end of it,\u201d said Mangano. <\/p>\n
The car left its radiator on the driving range. Officers later approached golfers to check if they were okay and asked if they wanted to press charges. Mangano declined. \u201cI think the guy\u2019s got enough problems on his plate as it is,\u201d Mangano said. <\/p>\n
Mangano has been playing at Lakeshore for more than 20 years. He said nothing like this has ever happened before. \u201cYou don\u2019t really expect to be hitting a bucket of balls and then look to your right and watch a car getting airborne and start driving through the grass,\u201d Mangano said.<\/p>\n
We reached out to Lake Shore Country Club, but we haven\u2019t heard back. When trying to go inside to talk to a manager, we were told nobody was in Tuesday. <\/p>\n
The Greece Police Department says it wasn\u2019t involved in the chase, but it came into Greece from the Charlotte area. The sheriff\u2019s office says it will share information about the chase once it\u2019s able to. Check back for updates.<\/p>\n
