Class of 2027 quarterback recruit Luke Gaither<\/p>\n

After committing to South Carolina football<\/a> earlier this month, a USC quarterback recruit is headed to another in-state school.<\/p>\n Class of 2027 QB recruit Luke Gaither<\/a> has flipped his commitment from the Gamecocks to Coastal Carolina, he announced via social media Monday.<\/p>\n Gaither\u2019s primary reasoning? Coastal Carolina<\/a> offered him a full scholarship. He was previously committed to South Carolina and Shane Beamer<\/a> as a walk-on.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter much prayer, I\u2019ve decided to pursue my lifelong dream of being a full-scholarship D1 QB,\u201d Gaither wrote in a post on X.<\/p>\n In his post, Gaither also thanked Beamer and South Carolina offensive coordinator Kendal Briles<\/a> for \u201cgiving me the opportunity to be a P4 QB in the SEC.\u201d<\/p>\n South Carolina, like most programs, generally only recruits one scholarship quarterback per high school class. USC currently holds a commitment from three-star Texas quarterback Jerry Meyer III<\/a> in the Class of 2027.<\/p>\n Gaither (6-4, 175) plays at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia and is unranked by most major recruiting services He committed to the Gamecocks on June 5<\/a> after impressing the staff at a prospect camp and earning a walk-on offer.<\/p>\n Gaither has 15 Division I offers and is \u201ctruly a P4 QB,\u201d his quarterback trainer, Baylin Trujillo, wrote on X. \u201cBut after a great (official visit), he decided to flip to Coastal<\/a> to accomplish a childhood dream of being a full-scholarship QB at the D1 level.\u201d<\/p>\n Coastal Carolina, based in Conway, competes in the Sun Belt Conference and is one of three FBS football teams in the state of South Carolina (USC, Clemson). The Chanticleers are entering their first season under new coach Ryan Beard<\/a>.<\/p>\n Chapel Fowler, the NSMA\u2019s 2024 South Carolina Sportswriter of the Year, has covered Clemson football and other topics for The State since summer 2022. His work\u2019s also been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors, the South Carolina Press Association and the North Carolina Press Association. He\u2019s a Denver, N.C., native, a UNC-Chapel Hill alum and a pickup basketball enthusiast.
