\n Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat reflected on his tenure in Congress and showed his appreciation for the community after his primary defeat tonight.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe have worked together to accomplish many things,\u201d Espaillat told the crowd, saying that it has been the \u201cprivilege of my life to serve you, the community.\u201d He vowed to continue to serve the people of the 13th District in other ways when his term is over.\n <\/p>\n

\n Repeating some lines in Spanish, Espaillat talked about his family and his upbringing. \u201cWhen I came to this nation as a young immigrant boy, I never could have imagined that I would be a member of Congress,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cTonight wasn\u2019t our night,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I love you anyway.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Espaillat, who has represented the 13th Congressional District since 2017, will lose his bid for reelection to democratic socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier, CNN projects.<\/a>\n <\/p>\n
