Animal control officers came to the rescue of a raccoon that got its head stuck inside a jar in Dedham, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

A concerned family called animal control for help when they saw the animal struggling. By the time officers arrived, the young raccoon was running out of air. After a few tense moments of twisting and pulling, the jar came off.<\/p>\n

The team was prepared to start CPR, but the raccoon showed signs of recovery minutes after the jar was removed, stumbling a bit before climbing on top of a swingset.<\/p>\n

Officers observed for a few more minutes and saw no further need to intervene.<\/p>\n

“We suspect this youngster’s family is nearby, and the wonderful residents who called us (including a very inquisitive and generous 5-year old who agreed to share his swing set with the raccoon), agreed to keep an eye on things for us,” Dedham Animal Control <\/a>wrote in a Facebook post. “The raccoon is also nearly old enough for independence and we are confident that it will thrive in the wild as it had just proven to be quite the strong and resilient little critter!”<\/p>\n

There is a lesson to take away from this happy ending, however. Make sure not to leave food outside, where it could attract wildlife. <\/p>\n

Residents are also urged to secure trash carefully. Take a minute to seal empty jars and containers when you’re throwing them out, just in case.<\/p>\n
